Battlefield 3 Concept Art, Storyboards, and Screens

The Battlefield team has sent out some behind the scenes looks at Battlefield 3 including concept art, storyboards, and a few screenshots to show you what it takes to piece together the gameplay experience. Some of this may be old to you, some may be new, so feel free to take a look at the screens and the accompanying descriptions.

    Animation1+2
Composites showing a number of frames of animation of a soldier sliding into cover in a couple of different ways. The ANT technology allows the blending of any number of animations seamlessly.

    AudioEngineering
A view of what audio engineer Stefan Strandberg’s desktop might look like when working with audio in Frostbite 2, DICE’s new cutting-edge game engine. The large schematic shows a view of how a model’s (in this case, one of the tanks) sound is processed based on everything that can happen at any one time in the game.

Concept artist Mattias Hägglund painted storyboards for missions to set the emotional target for Battlefield 3. These sketches show three soldiers arriving at a scene, one of them being shot and dragged to safety by his buddy.

    Alley
This alley showcases our the Frostbite 2 engine’s lighting (and is the same alley portrayed in screens “Lighting 1-3”).

    NotBuilttoLast
Destruction will be a major part of Battlefield 3, both on a micro and large scale. One of the new destruction features being brought to Battlefield 3 are crumbling facades, shown in this 4-picture sequence (this destruction will be a feature both in single-player and multiplayer modes).

    Briefing
A briefing scene from the single player mission.

    Novac
This is the hotel where a sniper camps in the mission, and is just one example of destruction in Battlefield 3.

    Gogogo
The start of a big street-level firefight.

    StagingArea
Out of the transport and on the way to the briefing. The relatively peaceful opening of the mission later erupts into the firefight in the parking lot.

No! so that you could drag your friends!! i dont think you should be able to shoot by your own when injured. Also what would the problem be?you are exposed, and our friend only has a certain area in front of him where he can shoot

          Ohhh, I see

Yeah, its a great idea, but there have been some tweets about how it didnt work well in multiplayer testing. I think when we were talking about it in the forums a few mentioned about how there would be a rough time dragging someone then reviving without increasing the spawn time.

bah, in my opinion its just laziness in not wanting to test, balance and try new things. Many people say "what is the point in dragging if you can insta-revive"? then whats the point of exposing yourself to revive if the player can just respawn? probably even on you?
Its a fact that it might not just work but that differs a lot in the way the game works, and yes i'm damn sure that it would be possible to put that feature into a game that is medium-fast paced as bf is.
For example: Why dragging? not every class is a medic so if your friend is down and you cant revive your fridn you might want to take him to safety or near a medic

The respawn time: I think it should work somehow the way ET worked(and i guess killzone 3? (never played console)), when you die there would still be the 10 sec spawn but you could choose if you wanted to wait them and leave your friend drag you to a medic (and you would not gain a kill because of the revive) or you could just press spawn and spawn somewhere else.
The shooting:No last stand, just shooting if beeing dragged and could only shoot what you were facing (ofc)and I think this could work with like damage meters, for example if you fall of a building or got killed by a tank shell to the face or stuff like that you would not be able to shoot while beeing carried but if you were killed by a few bullets to the limbs or if your body did not take a lot of damage you would still be able to shoot as you were beeing carried.

LOL, is it laziness if they already tried it and felt it didnt work out?

I do like your options though. I dont know how it would work out. Very good thinking Jimy. Maybe you can work out the logistics a bit more and send it to DICE?

No, I'm not be sarcastic either.

You just email Zh1nt0. The thing is, IF you decide to email them, you need to have all your ducks in a row and details on how it would work and what options there would be with very good explainations on why it would work. Just sending an email begging for that will get deleted.

You'll have to put some work and thought into it. Im sure they are getting hundreds of thousands of stupid emails every day. Zh1nt0 has said that he goes through them all. The only way you could do that is what is said in the first few lines of the email. You have to be a salesman and get your foot in the door.
