Pre-order Bad Company 2 Vietnam for $15, Play 3 Days Ahead of Release

Pre-orders for Battlefield: Bad Company 2: Vietnam have just gone up in the US EA online store. Available for just $14.99 (USD), those who pre-order the game will be allowed to play the game a full three days before the rest of the public has a chance to.

    - Four Brand New Maps. Four distinct Vietnam-based maps each bring a fresh visual and gameplay experience.
    - Six Immortalized Vehicles. Skim the treetops in the iconic American Huey helicopter. Drive the sturdy Russian T54 tank and the nimble US PBR "Pibber" patrol boat, plus three more vehicles immortalized in the Vietnam War.
    - 15 Characteristic Weapons. Players charge into battle with 15 new weapons modeled on their real life counter-parts, including the rare Navy SEAL XM22 machinegun and the characteristic M79 "Blooper" Grenade Launcher.
    - Rocking 60's Soundtrack. Listen to eight radio channels in-game, featuring 49 era specific tracks, including "Ride of the Valkyries" and "Fortunate Son" by CCR.
    - True War Dialogue. All-new voiceovers for both American and Vietnamese forces, based on authentic communication from the Vietnam war for maximum immersion.
    - New Achievements/Trophies. Players collect 10 new achievements/trophies, one being to blow up Vietnamese propaganda speakers. Earn new weapon proficiency stars specific to your skills with the weapons in the expansion.

    lol, marketing fail.

Getting to play a DICE game early just means you'll be the first to be abused by release day glitches. I don't think that's much of a pre-order perk.

I dont trust pre orders with no release dates from EA. 1943 made that clear to me. I will wait for it to be released on Steam.

Wasn't there something about it being exclusive for the EA Store?

It would be extremely dumb to release it only on EA Store. EA would need to release BC2 Vietnam to retail stores, Steam and other digital distributors to make profit on this "investment".

It's an EA Store exclusive because you need to tie your EA.com account (ie your Bad Company 2 login profile) to it for online activation, with the Medal of Honor paid DLC pack there wasn't any "key" to type in, I also wouldn't be surprised if they didn't roll this content into a patch for the PC so that everyone has it installed - given the way Frostbyte 1.5 doesn't handle drop in content apparently.

As for it needing to be in stores, that's just not true. Steam is taking over, but be careful for what you wish for - if Steam is the only distribution system then there go all your "Steam weekend sales" etc.

If that was true though, I wouldnt have been able to buy BC2 through steam, which requires the EA account as well.

Also, if the only place you could get the add on is through the EA store, why do a promotion to get it early?

They sold Medal of Honor through Steam as well, the "Hotzone" DLC you can only get from EA's online store - it might just be that after Valve takes their cut there's just not enough money left to make it worth while for EA - or that's how EA sees it.

I've noticed that EA is holding back on Steam releases, not even a hint of Need for Speed hot pursuit nor is Dragon Age 2 listed.
