Hi guys, how's it going? I'm looking forward to chatting (and hopefully playing some BFP4F) with you all.

This seems to be a bit of a common misconception. Lets try and correct that. Battlefield Play4Free is in no way related to BattleField Online. There really is no point in looking to Battlefield Online for any hints/tips about BFP4F as they are entirely different games.

Again, BFP4F is NOT BF Online :).

BF2 was a great game and for years people have been asking for an "updated" version. Well you know what here it is, and better yet its free (for now).

I have wanted to go back to BF2 for ages but simply cant find the player base anymore but now i have that chance to, with upgraded visuals and weapons.

      Honestly i cant wait.
It's going to be awesome! It's more than "just and updated version of BF2", it's taking some of the best features from BF2, BC2 and BF Heroes and combining them into one free package.

Console gamers aren't really used to 32 players though, are they? The vast majority of MP console games have far less than a 32 player cap.

As for the 32 man player count, as opposed to a 64 man count. It makes for a tighter, more intense experience, with more time spent in combat and less time spent trekking to it.

It also helps to keep the spec requirements for the game down. Which is great for everyone has it allows more people to play the game :).

DICE, quit wasting time on nonsense, get a clue from Call of Duty 4 and try to appeal to hardcore gamers(that you've lost so many of to CoD), not casuals.

Battlefield Play4Free is not made by DICE, it is made by Easy ( www.easystudios.se ), there's no need to worry about BFP4F taking any development time away from any of DICE's games .

I really can't wait to get to play this game with the community, roll on Nov 30th!

Yes, lets correct this. Here is a video of Battlefield: Online:

Looks real different right? No, it doesnt. They changed some of the splash screens and added some Hereos things into it, but its the same game. Oh, and guess what, you play it online like Heroes and Korean Battlefield. They may be different physical games, but thats where it ends. Play is an updated version with Heroes technology.

Glad we got that straightened out.

so how soon will they (force) you to buy new guns in order to not get pwned in this game. i really liked heroes during the open beta, but when they forced you to buy guns with actual money it split the community and pissed everyone off. i want this game to work, but i also know DICE wants to make money off of it so i guess ill play it until i am forced to pay real money for ingame guns

To be fair the chap was suggesting that it will make it's money using advertising. I said it would be MTX :) .

You'll be able to purchase various items that will contribute to the look of your character, whether that be items of clothing or cammo for your guns. You will also be able to purchase weapons that will have different characteristics, each with their own positives and negatives.

Ok, so you bring up the point of its looks. Lets take a look at it purely from an aesthetic point of view, leaving aside some sizable functionality and feature changes.

These lists detail the new visual elements that each game brings to the table over BF2 using the video posted above and the footage of BFP4F that has been released so far.
              Battlefield Online
              • New Kill messages.
              • Slightly tweaked UI.

              Battlefield Play4Free
              • Battlefield Play4Free has brand new character models and animations.
              • Battlefield Play4Free has brand new weapon models and animations.
              • Battlefield Play4Free has brand new graphical effects.
              • Battlefield Play4Free has tweaked maps.
              • Battlefield Play4Free has a brand new UI.

It's possible I have left out elements on both sides, but the above covers some of the basics. They are not the same game, I can assure you of that. They are built by different studios, 0 lines of code have been taken from BF Online. BFP4F is going to bring quite a lot of new elements to the table.

I'm not trying to start a fight CptainCrunch, just trying to help clear up any confusion which may be present :).

Okay 1) You do realize that most, if not 90% of people can play BF2 on their computers, and that was 64 players. It wasn't even a hardware demanding game 3 years ago when I made my computer. The number of extra players you will get from having the system specs lowered will be almost nothing.

Holy crap, I am so tired of hearing this. At first I didn't give a damn, but now it's annoying.

Do you think we're all MW2 players who just want to grind out their K/D as fast as possible? NO. EVERYONE HERE MISSES BIG ASS BF2 MAPS, AND THE LONG DISTANCES. THATS WHAT MADE THE GAME DIFFERENT.

                I apologize for my yelling.

Despite the criticism, I am very happy that you take time to interact with the community.

But I will also say that after the latest issues with BF:H and MoH, you have earned the scepticism you are meeting here. And it doesnt really make much of a difference to us if the corporation brand we are being shown is EA/Dice/Easy/The Federation Of Sober Swedes.

I played BF:H when it was still young and innocent. And I spend some money on various stuff to support the game and have a bit of fun. But I ditched it the moment they started selling weapons for cash, and I havent been back once. In the PC community, we are usually no very fond of people who buy their skills.

No problem for yelling, I well aware that Battlefield fans are massively protective of their series, and are extremely passionate about it (I should know, I am one ).

When comparing Battlefield Play4Free's technical requirements to the likes of BF2 there are a few things you should bear in mind.
                    • Customization: There are going to be MANY different customization variations for your PC to keep up with. You could end up with 32 totally different player customizations in the server. That in itself is going to add quite a bit of load, doing that with 64 players would add a whole lot more.
                    • New Graphical Effects: These will add more load to the game.
                    • Higher Resolutions: The average screen resolution at the moment is quite a bit larger than it was 3 years ago, and players are going to want to be able to play the game with everything turned all of the way up. We want them to be able to do so too. A higher resolution adds yet more load to the amount of info PCs will have to process.

Map sizes will still be considerably larger than a lot of MW2 maps. You'll still get nice, long, lines of sight and room to maneuver your vehicles as well as enough cover to make playing infantry extremely enjoyable.

I understand where you're coming from to a certain extent, but I would ask you to lay off The Federation of Sober Swedes, they're doing their best under stressful circumstances .

I'm also quite familiar with PC community having (in the past) played and adminned in the competitive scene for quite a while. I know where you guys are coming from.

I definitely think BFP4F has something to offer, and that quite a few people here will enjoy it. I look forward to playing it with you guys and hearing your feedback before and after you have done so. Interesting days lay ahead :).

I think everyone understands that it is an independant game. I dont think its actually the korean game. The thing is that its BF2 that is now playable online. Just because its reskinned and recoded or whatever, doesnt all of a sudden make it something 100% different.

You can say what you want, I think all the video pretty much sums it up. It may be a different type of car, but its still the same model of car. So it has some brand new things, so its Battlefield Online 2, or as some have mentioned, Hereos 2. Its a tweaked Strike at Karkand map, just like all the Wake Islands in all the other Battlefield games.

Dont get me wrong that this isnt a great thing, it probably is. I think many will enjoy it, including myself, but lets not pretend its something brand new and never before seen.

You do realize this is EXACTLY what we DON'T want in a Battlefield game, do you? if we were looking for ADD type fps where it's constant spawn, die, spawn, die, we would play one of the COD games instead.

I'm glad to see that we seem to understand each other :).

You are obviously an important figure in this community, with many people looking up to you and taking what you say to be gospel. My concern was that not everyone knows what Battlefield Online is (many have never even heard of it) and could therefore be easily confused by some of the things you have said. When you say that Battlefield Play4Free is a version of the Korean developed Battlefield Online, many people will take that as fact. I just wanted to clear things up that's all :).

I agree, I would not claim that Battlefield Play4Free is 100% original, in fact I have said on a number of occaisions that it combines some of the best elements of BF2, BC2 and BF Heroes. We are not trying to trick anyone into thinking this is a 100% brand new game. We are however saying that it is going to be a great game, and a heck of a lot of fun to play :) .

You'll still have plenty of vehicles to get your hands on, the maps will still be non-linear (for the most part), and they'll still be quite big as can be demonstrated by the fact that jets are present in the game :) . Battlefield Play4Free should do a pretty good job of balancing vehicle and infantry based gameplay and the interplay between the two.

I truly hope that people do not let the fact that BFP4F is not a 64 player game get in the way of enjoying what should be an extremely enjoyable game to play.

Battlefield Play4Free should do a pretty good job of balancing vehicle and infantry based gameplay and the interplay between the two.

I truly hope that people do not let the fact that BFP4F is not a 64 player game get in the way of enjoying what should be an extremely enjoyable game to play.

Okay, well thats fine for BFPlay4Free (You guys should have picked another name...) but if BF3 is like that, the PC community will hate all you guys for ever.

Im finding this rather another insult or salt on the wounds, they neglected BF for 6 years. Then have seen all of us complain about consoles getting it all!... now this ole bone?.

If this is how they(dice) run our BF series im shocked, dice selling? other people's work because they can understand what we want?

Im not going back to a bf2 clone,5 years as a zombie i spent there haha

this is marketed under dice/EA isnt it?

If i see another BF game that is tooned, ole or COD like im going spit chips lol
