Bashandslash.com posted up two videos showing more detail of the menu screens for Black Ops. The second video has some strange music, so you may want to turn off the volume

A video showing the main menu in CoD:Black Ops. The customization screens remind me of EA sport franchises like NHL Hockey or FIFA. Kitting out "your dude" is one of the big things in Black Ops:

One other thing to mention about "no beta" is that they were discussing the current setup which was on a console. The no beta could be for that specific console and doesn't mean that there is or is not one for PC. Could it mean no beta for any platform? It could, but that is just speculation.

I have mixed feelings on them not having an open beta. On one hand im upset there is no beta but on the other im glad cause if they released a beta people wouldn't just play it to weed out the glitches an problems they would just play it to get the upper hand when the full version is released an that aint fair so i can understand why they didn't do it. Not to mention im already hyped for the game I really wouldn't want to spoil myself by playing it early.

Its kinda like CS:S, where you get virtual money for doing things and then you spend it on stuff or gamble it to the poor house and then have your virtual knee caps busted, putting you in last stand until you can pay.

Well, I was kidding about the knee cap thing. As you rank up you get points that you "spend" on killstreaks or can buy contracts that you have to accomplish to make more "money" and things like that.

It still sounds silly. Is there a vid that explains it to a full extent? Cos I want to know if it's a one time buy for every gun or just the one you buy it for (ie: Camos/Attachments)

There are also contracts you can accept that when you complete in-game you get money. You dont get perks or weapons, but I did see a video where killstreaks were purchased. You get money by playing the game, not just wagers. You dont have to wager to unlock things.

Afraid there isnt a complete guide to it, just pieces in a number of different posts and videos.

There is this:

You still unlock items, abilities, and customization options through leveling up. You’re still gaining experience, but you’re also earning COD Points at the same time. Let’s use specific examples to see how this works. For perks, when you reach level 4, all perks become available for purchase. When you unlock Killstreaks at level 10, they all become available for purchase. And when you unlock great new features such as Custom Reticles, they become available for purchase for all guns. This lets you purchase what you want, when you want it. Just make sure you have the money.

Can’t wait to throw on an ACOG Sight on that new Commando assault rifle you just purchased? No interest in the Red Dot Sight? Skip right over it. No need to grind for kills. Save up your money and purchase the ACOG Sight instead. Can’t wait to demolish your enemies with the RC Car killstreak? Make it your first purchase after unlocking killstreaks.

This is just a sample of the options you can explore and purchase, but we’re not giving away all of our secrets just yet.

The thing I like about it over the ranking system is that guns to have to be in tiers anymore. Before, you would unlock better weapons as you ranked up (theoretically, they weren't always balanced like that). If there was a gun that dominated the other guns, the people who were too low of a level would get owned and it would be harder for them to rank up to unlock that gun. That causes whining about overpowered guns. Then there is the whining about guns that are a higher tier being worse than guns that are a lower tier.

With this system, there is no order for the guns. That means they can balance the guns by their strengths, and not worry about making some guns better than others because they are a higher unlock. And if someone is getting owned by a high level with a overpowered gun, they can easily go and buy that gun as well, even though they may be 40 levels lower.

And it hasn't been confirmed that you have to unlock the get the ability to buy guns. If you read Crunch's post, the examples provided are perks, killstreaks, and custom reticules. I would of thought guns would of been a major example?

Yeah but if you can unlock any gun right from Level 1, you could buy the most OP gun known to mankind and just rape with that one and not care about the others... Which would make the game blow...
