Map (Mode?) Pack 3 Out Now

=MNKY= Frosty brought us the following news:

Map Pack 3 is out since a few hours.

It includes the following two levels:

Laguna Alta, Squadrush - (code name "mp_003sr")
Nelson Bay, Squad Deathmatch - (code name "mp_008sdm")

If you are a player

There are already some servers up & running the new maps. Go look for them in the server browser!

If you are a server administrator

The maps are available to your server once your RSP has performed a configuration change [essentially: added a commandline option].
After that, the server recognizes the new maps in maplist.txt.

For those interested there are two more maps available for specific modes. This continues to spark debate on map pack vs. mode packs. Reading other comments on a number of different forums, it seems some are getting upset about the fact that all this material is already on our hard drives and just being unlocked at specific times.

So what are all your thoughts on all of this? A lot of opinions about these "map packs" as well as time of unlocking content and so on. Is it all good and no big deal or is it more then that?

We aren't getting any new maps.That's what Vietnam is for.I think this sucks.

Yeah, mode packs are better than nothing but still seem like a cop out compared to map packs. Especially since they are already in the game files and just need to be unlocked.

Imagine how much content the modding community could of made by now.

It takes time and money to create and release decent mod tools but IMO it's worthwhile considering people are still buying BF2 just to play PR and FH2.

Blahh blahh blahhh. These aren't map packs. This is the crap that should have been in the retail game to start with but they failed to do in time.

Attempting to call them map packs and get away with it is pure cheek. DICE thinks we are stupid. Although admittedly from reading the majority of forums... Most of us are.

I don't have the exact quote, but the whole point of the VIP program was that we would get free content as a reward for not buying second hand.
And while you could argue that the modes are content, most of the community feels that it is a case of getting a free toy Yoda instead of a free Toyota.

When was 1.03 released for bf2? I do believe that's when we got wake island. i Just would like too see the time frame for when we got a free map for BF2 compared too BC2.

I do think that it's crappy to be calling these map packs when they are not. All of this should have been unlocked when we bought the game. I don't want every thing for free, but a map with a patch now and then would be nice.

How many more of these game modes are left to unlock?

They could be working on actual new maps and they never gave us a date or anything for them, technically they haven't lied or broken any promises.
