Cross-Platform Gaming a Goal of Portal 2 on PC and PS3

Valve's Erik Johnson remarked at E3 that cross-platform play between the PC and PlayStation 3is a goal that the team is "gunning for."

Valve developer Erik Johnson has said that PS3 users playing co-op with PC users is "something the team is gunning for."

When asked about the cross-compatibility between Steam and Steamworks Johnson said, "The plan is you will be able to play between console and PC."

Not only is this exciting for Portal fans on both platforms but it has strong implications for other Valve games like The Orange Box and future titles, which could be given the same treatment.

Sorry Xbox 360 fans, it looks like the ball is in Microsoft's court when it comes to having Steam and cross-platform play appear on your system of choice.

I think that's what you meant to say.

Considering it's a co-op game cross platform playing is probably going to work out great.

Yeaaaaaaah, having to play with a bunch of self-entitled arrogant fanboys who think something is dumbed down because it appears on a console!

Good news! I was about to upgrade my computer, but thankfully I don't have to now.

There will be many features removed from the typical PC game because console controllers have less buttons. There will be more restrictions with regards to console commands, quite possibly none at all as it would give an advantage to PC gamers. And haven't you ever played online on a console? It gives me headaches just listening to those kids.

Don't be so arrogant just because you're the community manager.

Exactly. MS doesn't allow for many third party programs like that on their platform. They regulate this very heavily.

No, I'm arrogant because I'm not talking out of my *** and actually have a good basis for what I'm saying, unlike you.

Damn, have you even looked at Valve's track record when it's come to multiplatform titles? Have you even bothered to realize that nothing was ever cut or sacrificed because a 360 version was made in addition to a PC version? Yeah, you fail to remember that the last handful of Valve titles have appeared on the Xbox 360 as well as the PC, haven't you? There hasn't been jack or **** cut from the PC versions of any of those titles. Stop tossing up opinions like you have an idea of what you're talking about, especially when it comes to Valve.

What's next, are you going to say that they're going to have to dumb down future titles to appease the Mac users with a single click mouse? Or maybe they'll go all crazy and just do command line navigation for all of their titles when their Linux release hits? See how stupid broad, false, asinine generalizations can be about a platform?

And frankly, I've had the same stupid "kids" on both PC and console multplayer games. Idiots are nothing new to any platform. I've gotten headaches from every system out there that I've played online with, so don't think for a single second it's limited to just consoles, because no matter how much you wish it to be, that just isn't the case.

I believe that not only will valve dumb it down for the macs so that the one mouse button is context sensitive action button, That they will also remove the player movement, It will end up being a 1 button click adventure with no way to fail, All because of the macs.

I don't feel inclined to read some long post after being insulted. Kinda turns me off to the whole argument, makes it boring/a waste of my time. I mean, usually when one jumps to the insults, their argument isn't filled with too many logical reasons.

Because I called you arrogant... after you called me arrogant? Because nothing else in there even comes close to insulting you. So, if you're referencing that, I'll happily give both you and I an infraction for "Insulting Other Members" seeing as how you took offense to being called arrogant by me in a post immediately following yours in which you called me arrogant.

Otherwise, if you're going to start an argument you really cannot finish and had no basis for starting in the first place, just stop posting and beating the thread to death with off topic nonsense.

You replied to that post already, nullifying your cop-out reason. Furthermore, that wasn't directed to you at all, it was a generalized comment showing you how absurd your original statement was that you 'stated' in a very similar fashion. So, go on...
