Valve and Joss Whedon in Talks about Half-Life Film

This is news that is going to make you immediately say "Oh God, yes!" or "Oh God, no!" guaranteed. Joss Whedon (Firefly, Buffy, Dollhouse, the upcoming Avengers film, and more) says through his Facebook page that he is currently in talks with Valve to direct a Half-Life film. He put this "news" up on the 21st, so it is a bit dated by now but is the first we've heard about it.

    Joseph Hill "Joss" Whedon
In talks with Gabe Newell of Valve Corporation to direct a Half Life film starring Nathan Fillion after Avengers is complete

Is it just me, or is the idea of making a film based off of a game series where the main protagonist is mute a really, really stupid idea? Maybe if the film is done through following Barney it could work but there really isn't any other way unless, oh no, they gave Gordon lines.

    The horror... the... horror.

Gordon must never speak! It could be the end of the world if he does.

Watch them cast the completely wrong person for every character. I mean, who the hell would Nathan Fillion be, Barney? He sure isn't a Gordon Freeman.

Okay, before everyone gets all negative... Firefly was one of the best shows of that last ten years, so the director of that + one of the best SP FPS games of the last ten years has the potential for serious awesome.

I haven't heard of a single one of those films he did.

            I'm staying negative. :rawr:

This may sound crazy, but, how about Valve finish the Half Life game? Now if Hollywood is going to go on their own to make a HL movie, thats OK, it can bomb on its own just as well with Valve's involvement. Lets see Episode 3 sometimes within the next two years though.

I think that would be nice. Maybe thats the surprise with the Portal 2 announcement change.
