Purchasable Warcraft Mount Nets Blizzard Over $3.5 Million in Half of a Day

Earlier today Blizzard added a new item to their Blizzard Pet Store. The latest addition today was for a new mount that can be used within World of Warcraft. Priced at $25, the Celestial Steed has already gone on to rake in a considerable amount of cash.

Yes, according to WoW.com, the queue as of 7:30PM EDT was sitting at 140,000 users. Some quick math here shows that $25 * 140,000 equates to roughly $3.5 million (USD) and growing.

Given that it's now past midnight on the East coast here, it would be interesting to see how much of a queue there presently is. Earlier today the queue after just four hours was around 80,000. This means that in just the initial four hour span of being on sale Blizzard managed to pull in $2 million from an in-game mount.

25 Bucks for a mount that actually has a few advantages tied to it. I make about 25 bucks using the restroom at work. I spent 40 on my lunch today and only ate 1/4th of it. I bought a bottle of alcohol last weekend for 130 and it was gone the next day. I can throw 600 dollars of gas in the boat and it be gone in a few hours. People throw away money all the time and if blizzard can score 3.5 mill off a mount grats to them.

Yes, it does have a few advantages but nothing an ordinary mount cannot due, it is purely cosmetic.

Yep, And thats why its so attractive to wow players.

Before burning crusade was released and epic gear actually meant something, you would get people going AFK in the major city's all day just to show off their equipment and mounts, That is how sad some of the people who play wow are.

Yes, it does have a few advantages but nothing an ordinary mount cannot due, it is purely cosmetic.

The mount will work for all characters including characters not yet made and becomes usable at level 20. It's speed scales with your riding experience and it works as a ground mount in vanilla wow as well as a flying mount in BC and WotLK. I can only think of two mounts that can be used in both vanilla and the expansions as a flying mount and both are extremely rare. The recruit a friend mount is only given to one character.

If you consider this ordinary then we are two different type of gamers.

We are talking about video games right? Which part of video gaming isn't a waste of time? Compare the price of the mount to the time it would take to farm the gold to buy all the equivalents to that one mount.

I guess it is up to personal choice really, WoW fans obviously feel $25 for a mount is worth it, this could be compared with MW2 if i dare say so.

Im sorry, are you trying to justify a 25 dollar set of pixels which is primarily going to be used to show off with its "rarity" (precisely why its going to be shown off) and a couple of features which are not even worth 1 USD? Seriously? And you use your income to argument how good of an investment that is?

I'm saying most people throw away more than 25 dollars on pointless stuff everyday. The mount isn't rare and who the hell are you to decide what something is worth? The average mentally challenged person can make much more than 25 dollars working at mcdonalds in the time it would take to farm the equivalent of that mount. You're only possible argument is that playing wow at all is worthless.

What the hell addons are you using? That isn't an in-game interface for your media player, right? I've also never seen the bottom area be all black before, what addon is that?
