  • [RUMOR] Dedicated Servers Coming to Call of Duty 7?

Based on some leaked, unconfirmed information from "undisclosed sources within Activision", it seems as though the next Call of Duty title will bring back the very thing gamers are still hoping for in Modern Warfare 2. Tenitively titled Call of Duty 7: Black Ops, Treyarch is slated to bring back dedicated server support for the franchise.

Among this tasty detail, other pieces of information have been revealed about the gameplay and setting of Black Ops.

"... With a scheduled release date of November 2010 the game is still in full development but undisclosed sources over at Activision have stated that "Call of Duty 7 will be set in recent history, between WWII and present day". Besides this information the sources have also confirmed that some missions will take us to Cuba and South America, hinting again in the direction of a Cold War / Vietnam based game.

Also revealed was that in certain missions the players are able to play as a member of SAS (the Special Air Service), the principle special forces unit of the British Army. One of these SAS missions pitches you in close combat during a mission in the Iranian embassy in London during the 1980's.

It has also been confirmed that Call of Duty 7: Black Ops will feature the popular zombie mode, in which players get to shoot down hordes of zombies, a feature that could not be seen in the Infinity Ward produced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

And last but not least, dedicated servers will also be part of the new Call of Duty game, much to the delight of PC gamers across the world. After Activision fired Vince Zampella and Jason West from Infinity Ward, it seems like they are taking yet another step back from the direction they had taken with Modern Warfare 2 by re-adding dedicated servers."

This information was originally seen on Tek9 and relayed by MapModNews. As with all things "rumor-ish" feel free to take this with a grain of salt. Remember that Activision is still the publisher of the title, so anything is bound to happen, especially when it comes to dedicated servers.

I wouldn't be so surprised to see dedi servers... even if it was hardly a disaster for them not to include it in MW2 it didn't exactly improve sales.

I'm not, COD is dead for me and i suspect quite a few others when the new MOH game comes out. All the good work MW1 did for sales of MW2 won't be matched in COD7 or COD8, mark my words.

Well, we know they will feel free to change that at any time between now and release.

              This.

I wouldn't put it past them to lie and say it will have dedicated servers up until 20 days before release, only to change it at the last minute.

The game is developed by Treyarch the rival of infinity ward (both ironically owned by activision) Anyways Treyarch (makers of call of duty 5) are most likely willing to put dedicated servers, thats if Activision approves of that. I think everyone learned from MW2's epic failure, mostly because of Infinity Ward. If COD series will be saved, it will be because of Treyarch.
