Battlefield: Bad Company 2's Initial Reviews

As if it's any surprise, the initial reviews for Battlefield: Bad Company 2 have been quite positive thus far. Game Informer weighs in at a hefty 95% for the title, while IGN had a slightly less exhillerating experience at an 8.9 out of 10. IGN cites a lack of an "epic" feel and "short" single player campaign as being its two major downfalls.

Bad Company 2 is just a few days away from being officially released in North America. Expect tons of additional reviews to start pouring in!

Considering the game is meant for pure MP thats a stupid comment from IGN. As I see it the SP campaign is a little bit of story but more to show of the capabilities of the Frostbite engine.

TBH, the reviewer from IGN already made it clear he disliked the first game in the series and didn't at all sound enthusiastic about this review. Not to mention, he compared this game to MW2 yet made no mention of the fact that MW2's SP campaign was just as short, if not SHORTER than this one apparently is.

So much for reviewers being a neutral party oh well he'll get some stick for it.

"Hurts the cinematic feel" what a load of BS. I normally don't place too much weight on "proffesional" reviews of any sort of media (they are just one person's opinion, after all) and even less so for video games since MW2.

This guy seems to get too caught up in wanting to watch a movie, not play a game. Having played the beta, I have absolutely no doubt that multiplayer will be "epic." Plus, did IGN take off so many points on their MW2 review for it's short campaign? I'm pretty sure it had an even shorter one. >_>

I played MW2 last night -first time in a month since BC2 Beta was released

MW2 is an arcade game in comparison - its not in the same league

The way the guy was talking, Im surprised he gave it a 8.9. He must have been forced into that. Get a neutral reviewer, not someone who didnt like the layout of the first game at all. He compared the two and said it was so much better than the first one, but they gave the first one an 8.6.

Here is the IGN review of MW2:

They say some of the same things as they did in this review and gave it a 9.5. The reviewer even trashed the story of MW2. I know all three reviews were by different people, but you would think they would have some of the same views.

Anyway, I guess you can all figure out I am not too impressed with this review when you look at all the others

Re: Battlefield: Bad Company 2's Initial Reviews

All I noticed from the 2 reviews was that MW Co-Op stuff may give it an edge over some games, but otherwise both games are solid MP with (short) but good SP. I would love to see some Co-Op for BFBC2, maybe a later patch or something, but in reality, I buy the game because I like to play it. Not due to a reviewers opinions.
I think DICE/EA have a great game on their hands. WIll be a successful addition to the BF series. Can't wait til Tuesday.

A game review has to really be in the 2 to 5 range before I'll pay attention to the negatives. If a game is in the 8 to 10 range, and it's a game I want I'll ignore the review completely.

This Battlefield game, more so than any of the predecessors is in flux right up to retail with tweaks and fixes, for example the 25% weapon damage buff - no pre-release reviewer has played the final version I bet.

I ignore the reviews, but I think they've got the retail version that people will open on Tuesday. Some stores are already selling it, so it stands to reason that big-name sites like IGN will have received advance copies for review, even if only the single-player can really be reviewed at this point in time.

I'm not saying that IGN reviewers are paid off or anything but... ok ok, that's exactly what I'm inferring. I never trust individual reviews. I always have to check metacritic for the aggregate scores from all over on games I'm on the fence about.

Re: Battlefield: Bad Company 2's Initial Reviews

I find the criticisms in the IGN review to be quite weak.

                              - 'Short campaign'

It may be short but as far as Battlefield goes it's just a bonus. It should earn points for even having a campaign at all. I wonder what the result would of been if it didn't have one.

                              - 'Abrupt match ending'

I don't see how that's poor presentation, it's appropriate that the round ends quickly so you can go through the loading process and start the next match as soon as possible. What's the point of continuing a match that's over for an additional second or more?

                              - 'Too intense to be epic'

I can see the point they're making as quiet times are usually needed to build suspense, but that's assuming DICE really wanted to make a drawn out cinematic experience instead of a frantic over-the-top action ride. People's ideas of 'epic' vary as well.

The way MW2 tries to build suspense isn't particularly effective IMO because the music lets you know when something is about to happen anyway. So you're just waiting to hear the change expecting the next rush of bots.
