Bad Company 2 PC Beta Client Updated to R3

DICE and EA have just rolled out the R3 update to the Battlefield: Bad Company 2 PC beta. If you haven't seen the list of changes yet, check them all out below while you grab the update and dive right back into the beta!

This update is about performance and stability again. We are not doing any changes to the game's datafiles.
    • Reduced input "lag"
On machines where the CPU would out-run the GPU, sometimes the GPU would queue up several frames' worth of rendering commands.
This could lead to the game having a high framerate, but input still feeling very sluggish.

Now there's a limiter on how many frames the CPU is allowed to be "ahead" of the GPU.
Control this setting via Settings.ini. Default setting: RenderAheadLimit=2
    • Performance optimizations with biggest improvements on dual-core machines
    • Fixed black "masks"
o The soot on buildings with holes in them had a bugged renderpath. We switched that over to a more well-tested renderpath.
    • Improved hit-detection
o We've gone through the hit detection logic, and client+server will now give more consistent results.
    • Fix for some "rubberbanding" issues
o C4 should stay attached to vehicles and not rubberband around
    • Reduced spikes/dips in framerate
    • Various fixes for alt+tab related CTD on Dx9
    • More fixes for random CTD on Dx9
    • Fix for crash when you're in a vehicle that gets destroyed

    There was a race condition in the code;
System 1 thought "oh hey, you're leaving vehicle X"
System 2 thought "the vehicle got destroyed, let's remove it"

If system 2 ran before system 1, chaos would ensue.
This was actually fixed in the retail version since a month, but it was only when we got detailed crash reports from the community that we understood *why* the Beta was crashing.

    Likely bugs in this build
I wouldn't be surprised if it (still) has trouble remembering your settings between rounds. It would be nice to have that fixed too, but it's better to get a patch out now, and look at the settings issues afterward.

Went from minimum fps of 25 -> 40. Now it's smooth as silk on High settings except Shadows on Medium, and this on a 3,33GHz dualcore.

Looks good, although I don't play as much now due to hacks getting more and more common. You can usually avoid them by sticking to 16 man servers but they are so common now.

Haven't seen any hacks what so ever...

Great news anyway. Maybe I'll get a bit more stable fps at higher settings now. :)

This fix feels like i've just upgraded my pc now averaging 40fps with no lower than 32fps at construction site. Love my dual core Athlon :)

                      Chef!
That's great news, I'm hoping my superclocked AMD dual core gets a nice boost also.

Holy crap, I went from an average of 60 fps to 80 fps with a max of 130(!!) using all high settings excluding aa/af and hbao(which I could use with these numbers
anyhow). This update is a huge performance boost. I'm running crossfire so I'm sure anyone with a single 4870 or 5770 will get an average of 60 fps with these settings.

yep my fps increase massively, always smooth now, eveything from the reg to the fps feels much better

I got 20 kills for 0 deaths on the first round lol, I might have to try the FN2000 out again

                            I went from 20 - 30FPS on all low to 40 - 50FPS. Now I can at least play maxed out and still manage 30 - 40fps

They really are on to a winner with the Frostbite engine then if it can be optimized to such a great extent. I know its not even out yet but this is set up perfectly for BF3 and 64 player servers with full MOD support as the next logical step now that the in game store will be used for DLC and add on packs in BC2.
