PC Gamers Upset Over Lack of Controller Support in BioShock 2

BioShock 2 was just released and already the complaints are starting to roll in from the gaming community. Interestingly enough, one of the most complained about topics is the lack of controller support for BioShock 2 on the PC.

PC gamers have gone so far as to (gasp) create an online petition that requests 2K add in proper controller support to BioShock 2. Among some of the petition's requests are the following pleas.

This is for all of us who like the ease of use with a controller over keyboard and mouse set ups.
This is for all of us who are too uncoordinated to use keyboard and mouse.
This is for all of us who now have a paperweight that cost them between $50 and $100.
This is for all of us who want to experience this game in all its glory and beauty without having to relearn how to play video games.

On the flip side of the coin, 2K has issued a brief response about the lack of controller support. 2K's Community Manager posted the following response.

I've already reported all your concerns and complaints to the dev team, but not supporting the controller was not a decision that we made lightly.

Keep in mind that the first BioShock included controller support, which is one of the main points that is brought up by those upset over the lack of proper controller support.

The fail is... overwhelming. I guarantee you these guys are people who own an Xbox 360 (Would you buy a 360 controller solely to play PC FPSs?), but pirated the game for PC because they're cheap. Now, they're too ****ing retarded to figure out how to use a KB&M. I mean "...relearn how to play video games," really?

Yeah, this is a joke. Bioshock was EASILY playable on keyboard/mouse and great fun on top of it.

I think you're pretty much on Cable. I don't know if they are stealing it as its been proved with MW2 its easy to pirate for consoles, but I bet these are console people that grew up on console entirely and they are now a bit older and want to play on their PCs, but cant figure out controls.

Back in my day we had to be ambidextrous and be able to play on console OR pc at any given moment :wee:

If they wanted controller support they should have bought the game for the consoles.

I've actually owned an Xbox 360 controller for my PC pretty much since they came out. It's great for games like Arkham Asylum, Assassin's Creed, Spider-Man and Wolverine. I just got an Xbox 360 two months ago.

I play Borderlands with it when I want to sit back a bit. It's just easier on my wrists to use a controller. So I probably would have played Bioshock 2 with a controller, at least some. I would only play single player, so it's not like I'd be competing with mouse users or anything. Of course, when it comes time to play some CoD or BF, my G500 becomes part of my hand. :wee:

I can totally see why people are upset about this, especially since the previous game had controller support. Some people would rather buy games on the PC, with superior graphics and sound, and use their controllers from time to time.

But are these the same people that cry about a pc game being a console port.

A control scheme does not a console port make. MW2 can't be played with a controller, yet it's OBVIOUSLY a console port.
The PC is all about OPTIONS. The option to customize whatever control scheme you wish has been a PC gamer prerogative for decades. It's only now that they're taking it away and some misinformed people are dismissing it as something only consolers would want. Not true, youngling. :shakehead:
It was possible to configure a Gravis Pad for Commander Keen back in the day. Since that was literally 20 years ago, what excuse does 2KGames have to not allow a fully customizable control scheme now? And yeah, Commander Keen was sort of a console port. It started as an attempt to port Super Mario Bros 3 to the PC. Go ahead and talk **** about the guys who made Wolf 3D and Doom.

Yeah, most pc games aren't controller friendly. Most pc games have too many keys that you wouldn't be able to assign them all to a controller.

The reason pc gamers normally prefer mouse and keyboard over a pad is precision. That's why most consoles have easy-aim (where if you shoot in the basic direction and actually miss you will still get a kill). Off the top of my head the only ones that really got the aiming down with a controller was Goldeneye and halo. The rest make up for the crappy coding by either giving you easy-aim or the spray and pray effect where bullets just fly in a huge cone and not where the gun has kicked to or where you are pointing.

Then you get those realism games that are completely unrealistic. Unless realistic means that everyone in the military can't reload a weapon and move at the same time. Or everyone in the military controls a weapon so badly that the first bullet goes straight second hits the ceiling and 3rd hits the floor when shooting an ak on full automatic. Anyone strong enough to pull a trigger can handle a weapon better than those "realistic games".

Yea I guess you are right when you think about it like that.
