[CES] First DLC Pack for Modern Warfare 2 Exclusive to 360

It was just announced during Microsoft's CES 2010 Keynote that the first DLC pack for Modern Warfare 2 will be a timed exclusive to the Xbox 360. This news was also echoed by Major Nelson via his Twitter.
This Spring, the first Modern Warfare 2 content packs will be available exclusively first on Xbox LIVE.

While this was widely speculated as being the case long ago, it is now known to be a fact courtesy of Microsoft. The length of exclusivity is not yet known.

it will be interesting to see if PC DLCs remain free even though console ones cost money.

If I owned a PS3, I'd be PISSED if I had to pay for DLC after waiting for any significant length of time. And if they charge for the PC DLC after charging $10 more than usual from the beginning AND making us wait? They can pull their scrotes over their heads and suffocate for all I care.

i think consoles always had to pay for their DLC map packs in the past for COD.

but if they charge for PC, i won't buy. PC has always been free in the previous CODs.

IW doesn't have an obligation to give you what you want just because you choose to pay $10 more for their product. You just showed them that you are willing to pay that amount, and that in the future they can charge you the same price for their games.

Sure thing, guy. We got the DLC for free before after waiting for a few weeks to a few months. So there was a trade-off. If we have to wait a few months, pay for it, and pay more for the base game, who goes for that deal? Who really plans on buying DLC for this game on the PC?

For the PS3, they always had to pay for DLC, but they always got it at the same time. Now they're getting it late and still paying?

I don't see this working out for IW the way they thought it would. The Xbox 360 players might pay for the DLC, but I see people from other platforms moving on to other games instead. Their timing on this is just lame. They're waiting until spring, when people are getting tired of the game, to release DLC for one single platform. The people on the Xbox will at least be tempted to get the DLC, it's good timing for them. For everyone else, we'll be looking for DLC or a new game at that time. Since the DLC isn't coming, looks like it's new game time. And once I move on to a new game, I won't be paying to go back to MW2.

Does anyone really think this is a surprise? Of course PC is going to be charged for it. Thats the entire purpose of IWnet and Steam and not giving out mod tools and the new order of Activision and their entire GameNet sceme.

IW said they wanted everything the same across the board. The same experience for everyone. That did not mean just gameplay.

I'm just saying I think it's a dumb move on Activision's part. They're sacrificing sales on the PC and PS3 for nothing. People have already chosen their gaming platform for this game, for the most part. The only thing they're doing is losing money on two platforms, not gaining more money on one of them.

I see your point Expletive and in a sane world it would make sense. The thing is that Xbox for both IW and Treyarch have released the DLC for them first and PS3 people didnt do anything about it. I think we all know what IW thinks of PC, so I dont see any concern on that point. I forget, was PC 9% of sales?

A while back you mentioned about how they force you to buy DLC on the consooles because if you do not have it, when the rotation comes up, you get kicked off. Aside from those that bought it because they wanted it, some accept that fate but most purchase to end the disconnect frustration. I think the same thing will happen here and the PC folks will have a decision to make. Since the DLC will be out around the same time BFBC2 is out, the decision may be easy.

I personally never liked paid for DLC because it divides the community, such as Battlefield. I bought the map packs and loved them, but I had friends who wouldn't or couldn't and I could never play on them. Then you had the servers, or lack of servers, running the maps. It made the DLC not work the way intended. With this new model IW went with, there is no community or servers to chose from. You either have the map or you dont and get disconnected.

I dont mind paying £5 for DLC it just has to be sufficient enough to be worth the purchase,

This favourtism is really getting old.

Well, you really know what you're gettin into with a Mac. But with a PC, delays are just ridiculous. I mean look at TF2, PC, gets EVERYTHING!!
