Sony has confirmed that an upcoming firmware update to the PlayStation 3 console will allow you to fully play 3D games and Blu-ray movies. While no other details were given, it is expected that the firmware update will arrive around the same time that Sony releases their 3D line of Bravia televisions later this year.
While most TV owners still do not yet own an HDTV, it will be interesting to see how well received the 3DTV's are.
But Sony did have a lot to say on what you'll be playing your 3D videogames on, as they revealed their new line of full HD 3D-integrated Bravia televisions for release later this year. Additionally, they announced a partnership with IMAX and Discovery Channel to create a new 3D-only television network, and a partnership with ESPN to create a 3D-only sports network.
"Our goal is to become an undisputed global leader in 3D," concluded Sony CEO Sir Howard Stringer. Hopefully we'll get some more info specifically on the videogaming portions of that plan soon.
