Interview With Gordon Van Dyke on Gamespot

Johnrondot posted this review in the forums about Squad Deathmatch from an interview at gamespot.com. The video also shows a few more things in the upcoming game.

    <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/oPy8i7o8ssE&hl=en_US&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/oPy8i7o8ssE&hl=en_US&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>

Its shame that environment is so realistic, but gameplay has deph for 10y olds with IQ of 60( no offence kids . The run and gun tactics is getting repetitive after some hours of playing. I really hope that some modders will give new meaning to this game.

I think it's too early to make a decision on gameplay, especially with only a few videos and interviews. It seems like there will be the same old gameplay styles as in previous BF games as well. Plus, we'll still have squadplay, which is lacking from basically every other single similar game out there right now. :)

Also, it isn't TGN's "internet." It is yours. I don't have any such problems.

I hope your right. Im just disturbed to see ppl just standing and shooting from the hips...which is basically...hm..stupid..if it comes to realism and tactics. I understand that target client is 15- 20 y old. They dont have certain brain parts been developed yet And crosshairs...duh...is it year 2000 or 2010? Maybe we add red BOOM! too, when hitting something? Comon do something for grownups too! :wall:

Re: Interview With Gordon Van Dyke on Gamespot

I recently found out that BC2 will not be suited for tournament play. So basically this game is a linear, console shooter, that is NOTHING at all like its predecessors.

Sorry if I come off as a jerk, but many of us BF fans love the organized tournament play and we're getting tired of BF2. Why DICE feels the need to slash quality and depth, in exchange for destructible buildings is beyond me. Give us a quality follow up to Battlefield 2 damnit!

yea but what do you expect from a console title? these are meant for casual gamers no matter how much they claim the PC version is its own.

might need to wait for bf3 for what you want.

There is plenty of footage to go on to see exactly what this is. Console FPS gameplay. Aim down the ironsight every shot for any chance at accuracy. The same gun reskinned 12 ways with red dots on em. WOW. Any decent game prior has unzoomed crosshair shooting or its just plain bad. This will be another junk title to fill in until something real comes along.

Desert Combat is one of the only mods/games to ever get the heavy machine guns right. Not sure why those gameplay dynamics are just gone forever. WDF is this? Aim down the iron sight and hit a few shots here and there. Wheres the skills in all of this, more random garbage that looks life BF2 airsoft. Too many hits to kill, too many misses, weak accuracy and spread issues for the truly skilled.

I see how they justify watered down small maps with 16 players and a single vehicle, by masquerading that its innovative.

Are those graphics really leading edge? The player animations are weak at best so you would think the gameplay would be polished like a mirror, doesnt appear thats the case. Vehicles look like an afterthought and the helo action is just console copout. If its ported over to pc to play like what we have seen I just might pass on another game that looks like a slightly improved MW2 if that.
