The first day of retail sales of Final Fantasy XIII has already hit the 1 million unit mark in Japan. Retail stores will have 1 million units of the game on hand for release day with another 300,000 ready to roll out through the rest of the launch week.
Final Fantasy XIII.net notes that while this is a rather impressive number of sales, the pre-orders for Final Fantasy XII had surpassed 2 million units. They also note that FF12 was on the PlayStation 2, a system that had a much larger install base at the time of the game's release.
Final Fantasy XIII will only release on the PlayStation 3 in Japan, with a North American release on the PS3 and Xbox 360 coming in early Mach.
