Steam Phishing Scam

While the issue does apply for all steam users, those new to the system, primarily Modern Warfare 2 players, need to be on the lookout for a new phishing scam. If you are asked by an unknown player to login to a steam community page simply ignore the message. The people in charge of the website will hijack your steam account and change the password, effectively stealing all of your games and using your account to continue the scam. Again, scams like these are nothing new, but I felt it warranted a warning considering the fact that many Modern Warfare 2 players may be new to steam and therefore are prime targets for this scam.

I've had a lot of accounts from the BashandSlash group try to pull this on me, as well as from the COD Modern Warfare United group. For shame.

I thought it was rather relevant considering as you said a lot of people are using steam for the first time thanks to MW2 so looking out for them with things like this is a good idea.

Because you have to "login" therefore giving them your details.

My friend lost me my first Steam account through this crap, that's what you get for letting people play your games whilst they're in your company!

Do you people not realise that those sending the adverts aren't doing so because they want to, but instead because their account has already been hijacked. via this method It is now under control of whoever created the attacks and is being used to steal more.

Also,there are steps Steam has put in place to regain your account. People need to take the time and do that and then make sure everything is secure again.

Always look for the "green blob" as I call it in the address bar if its SSL which most important things are, but some aren't in these cases always check the website address and if in doubt type the address manually or go from favorites.

It only had CSCZ on it, which I didn't play too much, but he appologised and gave he his spare copy of BF1942! :yay:
