On the other hand it is one major reason why people still play pc games, the tech is flowing forward, were for consoles it is hopping.

i think it was one of the main reasons people did play pc games 5 - 10 years ago. Anymore, I think its the exact opposite. People don't want to invest $2000 in a top of the line pc when they can go out and buy the latest console for $400. I don't know how things financially look in Europe, but here in the states they're on shaky ground, people aren't spending what they use to on luxury items.

Only because back then there were more exceptionally phenomenal games. Now there's what? 1 a year, maybe?

That's why older games are still the most popular. There's nothing new that's worth any attention. That's why I want DICE to create a game so awesome that it will be worth upgrading your PC for. It needs to push the limits in every aspect. Like I said, BF2 was the last game that was worth it for me. However, I would have upgraded my PC to play TF2 if I needed to because that is another awesome game. I didn't need to upgrade, though.

It's different on consoles. Majority of console gamers buy any game, and every game and don't care or notice the decrease in the quality of games.

I agree that it seems strange that DICE are singing about DX11 when practically all modern PC games are ports of weak console games. They are making the right noises with claims of developing true PC games but the proof will be in the playing - all we have so far is PR speak.

I'm not interested in BFBC anyhow but a real PC Battlefield game with DX11 and tessellation could be cool. We'll see

If you are spending 2000 dollars to build a PC that only lasts a couple of years you are being ripped off mate.

Sorry, but I never spent so much on a pc, someone buying two video cards for example in my opinion is someone throwing money away. Of course I spend more money on pcs but I'm also able to do much more on it.

I'm gonna buy a new pc around december and from what I've planned it won't be more than 800€. Yes, it is more than 400, but for me it is woth it.

Everyone knew DX11 was coming with Windows 7 and given the beta, we knew it was going to be an awesome OS. It's epic uptake would only lead to knew titles being DX11.

For DX11 they atleast showed what exactly it is able to do and tesselation alone is worth it for me.

Yeah $2000 on a PC for gaming is a extreme exageration, especially since I work in a computer parts store. Up in Canada you can easily get a PC that can run crysis pretty much maxed out for around $1000. Also please keep in mind that before this newest console generation, a console wasn't able to browse the web. Now that they can it is a threat somewhat to PC's since web browsing is the most popular function for a computer. However until you can use a word processor or image editing on a console, which you'll need a mouse and keyboard for, (thankfully PS3 has this already) you still need a computer. And consoles do not cost $400, they are sold at a loss (except for the wii), PC hardware isn't so that isn't a fair comparison. And the Xbox's RRD, and to a lesser extent the Wii and PS3 failure rate is pretty decent, and with only 1 year warranty thats $200 basic Xbox, wii, or $299 PS3 will cost you more, either through extended warranty or paying for a replacement if they fail after 1 year. With PC's if you do it correctly and buy at the right level, you can get all your hardware with 3 year or more of warranty.

Also remember the PS3 came out originally at $600 which was still sold at loss, and has only become cheaper with time, and more importantly removing features, and we will have to see if the quality is at the same level.

Oh come on guys, they don't force you to upgrade at all. You do. Games are released with the ability to be played on low with normal equipment. If you want to play it all on full then it's your money and they give you that option.

So why put high options in at all you may ask? Because enthusiasts who already have the latest kit will want to use it. At the end of the day they accommodate to everyone. Whilst driving the industry forward in maximum capability as better and better cards come out.

The only valid point in forcing you to upgrade is if the minimum card is an 8600 or something. I for one have an old 7950GT 256MB (surprised?) and I use it to play Crysis.
