Well, if they did do something like BF Heroes, it'd be a free game. Heroes is free to play, its just if you want the fancy stuff that you have to pay.

They are not essential to the game but make the game more fun or make your character unique from the rest of the crowd. You don't have to pay, you don't have to buy anything via micro transactions to continue to play the game.
I know, but even this is f up fps games should not go the same direction as MMOS end of story. I m willing to pay for DLC but not for mounthly payments and micro transaction. Go do that it MMOS but not on fps.

NO. People need to wake up and realize Dedicated servers are the only option for FPS games on both PC and Consoles. I have been playing PC games since I was 8, the first FPS game I ever played was Wolfenstein 3D. The first FPS I played multiplayer in was Doom. When Quake 1 was released you had to play on dedicated servers otherwise nobody would be able to play because listen servers were complete s***. The same can be said for anything else that run on the Quake series engines, Ureal series engines, Half-Life engine, Source engine, and every other game engine that a multiplayer FPS game is built on. Listen servers will always be crap until home computers and internet connections around the world are fast enough for everyone to have 0-50 ping with 32 players or more (depending on the type of game and map size.)

Anyway, about the topic. I couldn't care less about microtransactions and DLC so long as it doesn't affect my ability to play the game by requiring me to have certain maps, items or anything else that will kick me from a game for not wasting my money. If you are to learn one thing from the way EA and DICE handled booster packs for Battlefield 2, its that charging for them will split your community. It was bad enough when it happened with the SF expansion, but when servers are running maps that only people with the booster packs can play and anyone without the boosters get kicked, that is just a whole lot of WTF FAIL. I believe you call that bifurcation...

So, although I can't currently rule out whether I will never buy a game published by Activision or not, I can say for certain that if things continue on the way they are with IW and the crap fest coming from Infinity Ward, I will never buy another Call of Duty or even a non CoD game developed by IW. If Treyarch go the same route as IW, I guess I won't be playing another new CoD ever again.

*edit* Oh, and just to be clear about the MW2 situation. Yes i bought the game, but that was only because I couldn't cancel my preorder because I had used a giftcard. I'm still planning to return the game or sell it on ebay if nothing happens with dedicated server support being added in the next 3-4 weeks.

I'm suprised nobody else picked this up. This is the coorperate ******** that I detest so much in this industry. They're basically looking for more places to turn a profit. Activision you literally just bumped up the price of your best franchise by $10 how ****ing gready are you Bobby?

Can't say I'm surprised. In my mind they continue to fail harder each and every day. It's really quite entertaining, I give them 12 months until their sales plumet and they make DICE's fail period look like an epic triumph.

Re: Is Activision Going to Nickle and Dime Call of Duty Fans?

Please...just take CoD off of the PC before it has any more of this crap flung at it. It seriously sucks to see a game you've loved and played for 7 years turn into this... It's a long relationship that has gone way down hill, and at least with IW, that relationship doesn't look like it will ever heal. We still have Treyarch, only problem is they're also under Activision, so while Activision wants a PC version and IW could care less, Activision would obviously like the idea of squeezing out every penny from us. SO, if IW is successful at the milking and squeezing, get your utters ready for CoD7 people!

As a gamer, I = pissed. But, from a business standpoint, if people are going to pay for all of that crap when a lot of it should already be in the game, why not? Make your money off everything possible.

In the next CoD, it will cost an extra $5.00 if you would like to enter in a custom name for your player, otherwise you will be UnknownSoldier [insert #].

COD is becoming more and more like Combat Arms.

Buy to pay, I doubt even the koreans will embrace that.

                          "Get over Dedicated Servers" !?!!!???!?!
How about shut down the internet and return to the BBS era?

MW2 is sounding more, and more, like Warrock. The only major difference is that Warrock is free. If MW2 was free, all these awful changes would be acceptable.

Oh and at least Warrock supports more than 9vs9, lol.

And people didn't realise this was going to happen?

all you had to do was look at how Activision prices CoD, what Kotic believes in and the major alarm bells that should have been ringing when dedis were dropped in favour of IWnet
