Direct2Drive NOT To Sell Modern Warfare2

Came across this on the Direct2Drive site while looking up pricing:
Thanks for your interest in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 from Direct2Drive.

At Direct2Drive, we believe strongly that when you buy a game from us, you shouldn't be forced to install and run a 3rd party software client to be able to play the game you purchased. Because COD MW 2 requires you, the consumer, to do that, we aren't able to offer the game via Direct2Drive at this time. <!--more-->

If you're interested in this game or future games being free of any additional software clients, please let us know by sending us an e-mail.

As a token of our appreciation, please find a code below that will allow you to receive $5 off select Activision titles on Direct2Drive.

We hope you will visit our partner, Amazon.com for your purchase of COD MW 2, and we hope you will continue to visit Direct2Drive for your digital game purchases.

This is a bit understandable as D2D is a direct competitor with Steam.

Do you think this is just competition and sour grapes or is there more involved in this decision?

It might be exacly what they said. They don't want to sell a game that doesn't work on its own. Or IW signed an exclusive agreement with Steam and D2D can't sell it at all.

You are the bigest conspiracy theorist for MW2 at the moment

How is that a conspiracy theory? Why would Steam allow a game that requires their application to be sold to their competitor? That wouldn't make any sense.

Thats a valid point. Maybe they can't sale it and this is a way to make it up to the customer and get a little dig in.

It is a good theory as to why. I don't think its a conspiracy as this does happen in business all the time. Try to get your iPhone on another network

I just thought it was an amusing shot from an awesome game. I have little reason to put little emoticons in all of my posts. :|:

It requires Steamworks to run... So, I think it's just a matter of them not wanting to sell a game they technically can't support.

Stardock's Impulse and Gamersgate are also boycotting MW2.

I honestly wouldn't mind if "official" game hosting companies supported by Activision and such refused to do anymore trading with Activision and any sub companies under it.
The boycott would have a much profound smack in the face to Activsion and its minion companies if all but private CoD4 servers went down.. even for a week.

I could do without CoD4 for a week.

Meh, I'm not real bothered. I don't really trust sites like D2D if something gets screwed up...

Currently the other onlines stores aren't causing too much of a loss, STEAM is at the top and those that really want MW2 will go to STEAM to purchase their game. As when you compare the user friendliness between all the stores STEAM wins for now.
