In an interview with Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft, it may have been a slip of the tongue that hinted at a Blu-Ray accessory drive coming for the Xbox 360. When asked about the possibility of adding a Blu-Ray drive to the 360, Ballmer replied with the following.
When a follow-up response was requested, a Microsoft representative declined to comment beyond the following.
It should be noted that Ballmer did not specifically say the Blu-Ray drive would be coming as a 360 accessory. His statement could have easily meant that other companies have Blu-Ray drives that could fill that HD void if consumers are so inclined.
All we can do right now is take a "wait and see" attitude.
"Well I don't know if we need to put Blu-ray in there—you'll be able to get Blu-ray drives as accessories."

Our immediate solution for Blu-ray-quality video on an Xbox 360 is coming this fall with Zune Video and 1080p instant-on HD streaming. As far as our future plans are concerned, we're not ready to comment.
