The Modern Warfare 2 Boycotts and Petitions Are in Full Swing

Mere moments after the news that Modern Warfare 2 would not feature dedicated server support (along with removing a host of other FPS "standards" commonly found in PC titles) came word of a number of petitions and boycott groups already starting up.
    - The IW forums petition has ballooned in size since it began earlier today to its current form of 126 pages. With over 1000 signatures in that petition (at last count), this petition is a plea to Infinity Ward to rethink their stance on no dedicated servers for Modern Warfare 2 and to provide mod authors with mod tools. Update: It appears as though the IW forum mods have deleted the thread and all 400+ pages of signatures contained within.

    - A petition started on Petition Online has UPDATE: Over 26 Thousand signatures as of this posting and hopes to make Infinity Ward "review their decision not to allow fully dedicated servers" for Modern Warfare 2.

    - A Steam Community group, Modern Warfare 2 BOYCOTT, is also voicing their concern about IW's decision to not allow dedicated servers. They feel as though the lack of dedicated servers will destroy the modding community by disallowing custom maps to be played, mods will not work, and thusly competitive gaming for MW2 is dead before it could even take off.

    - A second serious Steam Community group, Boycott Modern Warfare 2 (WE WANT DEDICATED SERVERS) has also just started up. This group wants Mod Tools, dedicated servers, and more.

    - And if you're looking for a satirical boycott group there is always the other Steam Community boycott group (Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 boycott) that imitates the goals and hopes of the now dead Left 4 Dead 2 boycott group.

We all know by now how effective boycotts and petitions are online. However, if you are a little hopeful that Infinity Ward might re-examine their stance on Modern Warfare 2's multiplayer plans, you may as well join a group or sign your name to one or all of the above.

IW has to notice what they have done, now will they be humble enough to admit they screwed up? I doubt it.

They'll just ignore it all, I'm surprised that 402 even bothered to release any new info about the game - did he even have the authority to talk about it?

IW's and Activision's plan seemed to be to not talk about the PC version, I wouldn't be surprised if they put the blame on lost sales due to disseminating the info about no dedicated servers and their plans with IW.net prematurely, and not on their obvious incompetence with regards to making the PC version of the game. He'll probably be reprimanded if not fired.

I'll be amazed if any of this actually manages to get IW and Activision to respond in any formal way to these complaints.

Good point, the messenger gets a Bullet first. He sounded almost scared to talk about the Pc info and you could hear a pin drop on the podcast when he dropped that bomb.

I doubt it. They'll just blame it on piracy like they did last time and then never develop on PC again. Then treyarch, activision b!tch #2 will think about it and possibly follow suit.

The first part I am sure of the second Im still thinking about

Information that was given from 402 on a webcast bashandslash about no dedicated servers for MW2 stabbed the PC community in its back. Making a game that is expected to be better than Modern Warfare 1 with listed servers (matchmaking) is an outrages. This steam community is a petition for those who are: 1. against the idea of IWNET (matchmaking / list servers) (no dedicated servers) 2. against no mod tools 3. No clan play support As a member, we vow to not Support IW (by buying MW2 for any platform.

I hope 4chan crashes the server. also, I hope they get extra pissed off because of this:

I thought making fun of 4chan leads to you starring in a gay porno without your consent or knowledge?
