Left 4 Dead 2 Granted MA15+ Classification in Australia!

It seems as though the Classification Board in Australia has granted an official classification to Left 4 Dead 2!

Left 4 Dead 2 is now branded as a "MA 15+" game that features "strong, bloody violence." However, it is not yet known if this classification is for the recently submitted edited version of the game or the original version that was initially denied classification.

Valve's Gabe Newell is down in Australia right now visiting Joe W-A. We'd like to believe that he started throwing some punches until the Board gave in to his demands.

Gabe is awesome for going down to Australia and fighting for us. Now I am dreading whether if we got the edited edition or not :s

Obviously an edited version. I still dont get why they censor so much down there, its not really that gory.

They only censor games here because they have this belief that ALL games are for kids. If a Child can't play it, even "supervised" (doesnt change anything of course, parents are dumb enough to buy kids R18 stuff, even in NZ) then it "has no place in our innocent country" (which is ironic since it was founded as a penal colony)

I would think its an edited version. It went from an outright ban to NO 18+ to now MA15. Thats quite a scale down.

Well considering for movies we only have 5 different ratings (G,PG,M,MA15,R18, the first 4 for games), its not much of a scale down.

Yeah, my old country isnt totally useless, its good for getting uncut versions of games you cant get in australia, and sheep.

Ive been curious, how do you import a game? Does it cost more? Do you have to pay some import fees or taxes? Do you have to buy it underground and hope you dont get caught?

@5t3v0 - but how do you explain this:
Homepage for Total Gaming Network and CS-Nation. Get the latest video game news, previews, and reviews on a daily basis.

If games only go to MA15? Was the wording just wrong?

First of all, the way I would do is pick it up while i am visiting family in New Zealand. or you could get a friend to get it, or you could order it. the first two I mentioned are probably the latter you mentioned.

And the article's wording seems wrong. Its saying something about it lacking approval for the R18 rating, from that d!ckhead of a SA governor, which will never happen.

So its one more politician speaking about something he knows nothing about. He gave the 18 rating for a game that cannot get it.

So TECHNICALLY, he is correct. L4D2 will never get an 18 rating

Going back to getting the game, you plan to smuggle it in? :eyebrows:

BUT, you can also just order it and get it sent to Australia?

I might be going back to new zealand for a holiday in the next year so I might get my older brother (who is 21) to pick it up while we are there.

we will probably have to smuggle it in and I hope New Zealand doesnt do what they did with GTA4 when it was first released (it was the same version as australia for the first year or so). I also hope that steam doesnt adjust the version to the australian edition, if not Ill just say F*ck it and get the Aus version
