Battlefield 2 to hit Steam and D2D

The OfficialBF2 channel and Twitter has announced that EA is due to publish the complete Battlefield collection including patch 1.5 on both Steam and Direct2Drive. Here is the original statement:

TODAY at ~10am PST, 18:00 UK, 19:00 Europe.

Hopefully this is the start of all new Battlefield games being posted on the popular Steam portal.

Excellent, a must buy for me.

I hope the BF2 community is doing alright these days.

...And apparently, BF2 is nowhere to be found for us EU/AUS folks using Steam.

What a wonderful idea, wish they would do this for future titles. Patching could be done much smaller and more often with no burden on users. Really hope future games are on Steam.

Does this mean we can join games and see friends playing it on steam now, or do we have to install it through steam for it to work?

EDIT: Also, any word or ideas on BF2 mod support?

Pretty much all other games on Steam support mods (if the retail version does). I have Crysis Warhead on steam and mods work perfectly.

But then again it's BF2, buggiest game on the planet so who knows

Crossing fingers and hoping this is one of the Steam games where you can enter retail keys to unlock Steam version, I am getting so tired of having to patch the game up.

hmm i have trouble seeing how they can put up 2142 on steam in the condition it's in right now... servers crashing, account spoofing, etc. they got a lot of nerves, lol.

Complete Collection, so it looks like even if they allow retail keys, if you have the original version it won't work.

EDIT: Germany its 19:00, hence EU not GMT, who the heck cares about those English anyways. BF2 hit Steam, also CC. Dammit, guess not entering my old key.

Yes but there's nothing stopping you running retail BF2 with the steam overlay so you can use the ingame friends list etc

Yeah, but we could do that anyway. If I have to alt-tab and cant join friends through steam, it defeats the purpose.

Hopefully they will come up with a way to include retail owners.
