Jack Thompson Sues Facebook for $40 Million

Jack Thompson (I'll give you a moment here to curse his name) is at it again. This time, the disbarred lawyer is setting out to sue Facebook for $40 million (USD).

None of these activities has made him many friends on Facebook, where there are literally hundreds of groups -- most with just a handful of members -- dedicated to him. The less-offensive sounding ones have names such as I Hate Jack Thompson, Stop Jack Thompson, and Disbar Jack Thompson.

But Thompson says that some of the posts are dangerous and have caused him "great harm and distress."

For example, he cites the group Jack Thompson should be smacked across the face with an Atari 2600 in his lawsuit.

Another link -- now apparently removed from Facebook -- reads: "I will pay $50 to anyone who punches Jack Thompson in the face. If someone can get a video clip of themselves punching Jack Thompson in the face I'll PayPal them $50."

In his court filing, Thompson says he's been harassed ever since the 60 Minutes episode. His house has been shot at, his car vandalized, and he's had "sex aid devices sent to his home." At night, he has to take his phone off the hook to keep from being awakened by angry callers.

Don't worry though, Parry Aftab, a cyber-law attorney says that this lawsuit has "little chance of success."

It appears as though Thompson will do anything for a little more time in the limelight.

They need to put this dip**** in prison for wasting taxpayers' money with frivolous lawsuits.
Maybe a "Three strikes and no more litigation for you" rule.

And maybe $50 isn't a high enough reward...

From Wikipedia "John Bruce "Jack" Thompson (born July 25, 1951) is an American activist and former attorney, based in Coral Gables, Florida. Thompson is known for his role as an anti-video-game activist, particularly against violence and/or sex in video games." So basically, a jack***. Anyway, his case seems to have no basis. Just because someone is expressing free speech doesn't imply that they are the reason for certain acts. The people he should be suing (but not realistically) are the people calling his house and sending things to him in the mail.

and a pretty good way to tell if a legal case has no backing is to try to figure out where a person got the money demand from. Why, on all of gods good creation, would he need $40,000,000 for harassment?

This guy is the best asset we have to ensure tyhat games are never over censored: everytime he opens his mouth, more bull$hit spews forth.

If games are "training" for committing violent acts, then why can i not skateboard after YEARS of playing Tony Hawks games???
