Every old school gamer has hoped, preyed, or dreamt that the N64 classic, GoldenEye, would appear in some form on a modern console. Unfortunately, Rare is here to squash those dreams like you wouldn't believe.
Initially, it seemed as though the classic would one day appear on the Xbox Live Marketplace, but discussions fell through between Nintendo and Microsoft. Then it was Rare who stated that "licensing issues prevented the game's release." After that, Activision placed the blame squarely on Nintendo's shoulders. At long last Rare spoke up at a recent event about the fate of GoldenEye.
While it isn't an outright claim that you will never see GoldenEye, do not expect to see it any time soon on anything but your dusty Nintendo 64.

“That was some time ago, my friend. Fate was against us that day. Destiny conspired to raise the hurdles even as we attempted to clear them, resulting in unpleasant groinal injury. I suspect we’re long past the stage where an agreement was on the cards, but you never know. Stranger things have happened… somewhere… probably.”
