Fantastic. Honestly. Great. Now more developers can stop complaining about piracy on PC and actually develop games on it again. The more business models that work the better for everyone.

I can't wait to see a game that is freely distributed (and even 'pirated') do better financially than those which try to ignore the tide of digital distribution that is here.

Hey, if it works, maybe they might actually realise that PC gaming isnt as dead as first thought, and make some damn HC games (I do like BFH nonetheless, just havent played it in a while)

I'm waiting until I hear confirmation from EA/DICE if they really made $30 mill. dollars. I say that because it's hard to believe that a free game grossed that much. How much is that in percent? That's some good business! Maybe they'll use that money for future PC games! :)

I've been thinking. What if micro-transitions were used in a big PC title BF game? You could buy kool stuff for your soldier, ones that look sweet though, more military like. They could make a mode, where you can add pure crazy stuff to your weapon, soldier, maps, etc and battle each other. Would be more for casual players to screw around and just laugh. Would be unranked though, so stats would not be hurt from all those crazy gadgets. Idk what do you guys think?

Either DICE or EA provided the stats for use by IGN in their article I believe.

Nah, $30 million isn't actually a lot in terms games. You have to remember that development and externality costs are huge (especially labour costs). It's normal for games to run into the $millions to create.

I'd be interested to see whether the Heroes project has broken even?

I wonder how EA and DICE split the money? DICE made the game, so I think they should receive more than EA, but EA funded the game.

I know it takes money to make games, but usually you don't see games make that much money. What was the latest game that made bank?

An interview I read right when the beta started said that for Heroes to more than break even it will have to be the most popular BF game in the history of the franchise.

EA and DICE are one and the same... :shakehead:

They have made 30 million off a "free 2 play" game.

                            Ironic ?

I play this and like it without any dollar. Wo-be-tide publishers think some positive pub about this will help. I'd start a Crusade against, who's with me?

                              In fact, it just started.

I'd have loved to get COD4 for free and pay for the M4 DD
