I agree. They've made it clear we're only paying for the license to play the game at their convenience. So we're really just paying for a CD key. How we get the client installed shouldn't really matter.

See http://www.totalgamingnetwork.com/ma...d.php?t=119683 for information about the perfectly legal mini-images that are widely available for BF2.

I wonder whether the BF2 1.5x patch or the Diablo 2 1.13 patch will be released first.

Yep, and it's pretty much in the same boat BF2's patch is in; an old(ish) game getting a patch that has been in process for over a year by a company that can only spare a couple of people to work on it because they have the third major installment to the franchise being worked on by the majority of their personnel. They've both been seemingly 'a week away' for months now and they're both set to be released at any time. The similarities are frightening, TBH.

Yeah, but D2 is nowhere near as much of a broken mess as BF2 so its not a fair comparison no matter how you look at it.

But D2, much like BF2, isn't getting anything in the patch that would address the most serious concerns anyway. Another similarity.

I've been away from this forum for over two years, and it's still the same old, same old: EA doing their level best to ignore, disappoint, piss off or alienate their long-term customers.

We'll see 1.5 on the 10th of Never.

You do realise that there are only 2 people working on the patch, right? Also, it's been said before, and Ill say it again. If EA had their way this game wouldnt even have conceived the Idea of a "1.5 patch". We are lucky enough that the community is even getting ANYTHING, let alone a whole patch.

                    though nice HK reference there.

Thanks, Stevo. And yes, I do realize that they've understaffed the effort. That's because BF2 has been a low priority for EA ever since they got all of us to plunk down the cash for the game back in '05.

Unlike real software manufacturers, EA put out an incredibly buggy and untested POS program then effed it royally by dumping a series of half-assed patches that finally culminated in the somewhat stable but utterly hacked 1.41 that we've all been using for how long now... can't even remember, but it seems like it's been since the last ice age. 2 years? Maybe more than that? It makes me sick.

                      /pause rant
None of this is directed against you, Stevo - it's against EA.
                      /continue rant

And now, EA is putting a team of TWO WHOLE STAFFERS on the effort to fix problems that have been lingering in this software product for the past 3+ years?

Awesome. Outfrickingstanding. I am so impressed by their commitment to their customers. EA, you rock!

I paid $40 4 years ago for this game, and they still can't get the favorite servers list to refresh. Hit refresh, poof half the servers are gone. Randomly. Only way to bring back the favorites is to restart the game. That's a fantastic feature. It's almost as good as sorting the regular servers list by ping, and having that result only be 300% wrong. Randomly.

Even better, we still can't even get stats pages to show ratios (you know, kill:death by weapon, vehicle etc). Maybe their two-staffer team can study up on basic mathematics, and have the software display something useful like 1.49:1 instead of the 11412:7658 we have now?

Let's not even go down the whole hacking/aimbotting/punkbustering joke that some servers have become. Let's not even talk about how idiots with downloaded skills can force individual player CTDs, rain vehicles from the sky, hijack the arty, and crash servers... You know, EA you've had YEARS to fix this thing. Even two people could have made some progress in that time.

But no... let's delay 1.5 another few weeks, another few months, another season... all while assuring the community that something good is coming. Someday.

Well, I've got news for us all. It's not coming. Stop dreaming, guys. 1.5 is vaporware, and these clowns at EA, even if they weren't lying to us, are showing us just how much they care about this community by putting two low-level staff pukes on the task.

Yeah, yeah rant at me and tell me to STFU because your inside contact at EA assures you that 1.5 is right around the corner. Step away from the Koolaid. It ain't happening. Two staffers? Two EA staffers?

Nothing else could describe their contempt for us more eloquently than this: TWO STAFFERS.

                      They can staff this.

I understand. However, in times of panic I always try to stay positive. The two guys have done a lot it seems (made hit detection better for exampe) and I think they are trying to get rid of CD checks. IMO just be patient and maybe we'll get more than we bargained for. Thats just what i'm thinking 'bout this.

as bad as what bluebunny said sounds, he is mostly right about this. (except his rant about K/D.. cmon now)

they have a history of shoddy patches, patches that create whole new set of problems, and patches that fail to come out in reasonable time. so they decide to go with a couple guys to solve the problems of this complex game, a game they weren't around to make in the beginning? a game with a huge community is not something you want to address with low level people. of course they won't be able to produce a satisfactory patch in a reasonable time! even if the patches come out, the game will suffer from new problems, (because in the BF, you touch one thing and you'll break another thing, guaranteed!) some which are already being pointed out by many at the uk forums.

the game should've been patched by the guys who originally made the damn game if you ask me. this is what happens when you disappear to go work on other projects and don't give a damn about fixing and finishing what you started. this endless cycle of patch failing won't end until they hold the original programmers responsible for fixing their own mess; you need to hold the programmers accountable for buggy code writing in the first place. change the status quo!
