Darn...I was expecting them to release a patch during the summer. Oh well...they should have just release small patches which fix a few bugs instead of delaying. If it was about the nodvd in drive thing, they should just put that in another patch and concentrate first on fixing bugs. Not surprised that they would delay...

DICE only put three people on the task of making the patch, one programmer, one map maker and the executive producer to act as community go-between guy. It's amazing that they're even doing a patch in the first place considering not even DICE knows the inner workings of the game code, change one simple thing and ten other seemingly unrelated things break.

They actually have to pay Gamespy to add new maps to the ranking system, and it's a pretty sizable sum. It's ridiculous, and I'm sure that's one of the bigger reasons that they're not including a lot of the great community maps for BF2.

So, you can't use their work without having a contract stating who owns what, in which case you have to use the under age member's parents.

Also, laws regarding contracts differ in countries. England, you have to be 18 to legally sign a contract yourself.
This is true. We did the legal stuff for Wake Island 2142 just a couple weeks before my 18th birthday - had my parents sign the contract, then scanned and e-mailed it back to EA.

Do you remember anything from the contract? or are you allowed to disclose anything?

Just wondering about some of the details, like if you made custom static buildings, would you have to sign away the rights to ea and dice; essentially allowing dice to own your stuff and use it for any of their own games other than bf for pc.

Wow, this is actually getting beyond pathetic. I never thought I'd see this type of process (or lack there of) for a simple patch. It's a little bothering to me how DICE seems utterly incompetent in properly supporting a game which has probably been their biggest title to date since being released. I say properly supporting because DICE openly admits that they're using summer interns as the lead for getting this patch out the door.

Summer interns?!? Is that any way to treat a game that at any given time still has over 10,000 players online simultaneously? The only game that's had more short-term success on PC than BF2 is arguably Call of Duty 4 (in terms of shooters). "Battlefield 2 has sales of over 2,250,000 copies worldwide, as of July 2006." Etc...

Yep, we get summer interns. Is it really a surprised that this patch has been treated so unprofessionally? I love that Dice works hard, but maybe they should focus on fewer things at a time so they are finished p r o p e r l y.

it's not surprising, we always joked about DICE outsourcing patches to DeVry because it always breaks more things than it fixes, but damn it's kinda true! lol.

i don't think anybody expects a good patch from DICE anymore. they never come as promised and always introduces more problems.

it's really not surprising judging by the history of recent patches from them.

The loading music for the map was composed by a member of our group - EA now owns all the rights to it. I would assume the same thing applies for any models and textures. The map contract says that EA has an exclusive license to the map "in connection with BF2142 including but not limited to all related merchandise". Of course, what they mean by "all related merchandise" is kinda fuzzy :p

You will be happy to know that you will not need your DVD in the drive to boot BF2 after the update.

We have to deal with HUD stretching? Bums. Why can't they just push everything to the sides of the screen and leave it like that?

Would the extra couple inches of visibility along the bottom would give widescreen gamers an unfair advantage? That must be it. Silly me.

Do all of you still play BF2 regularly? I was just wondering not saying that this game is dying. Mine is broken I wish I could play.

Either they wanna through some unfinished maps in or they wanna added prior pay to play material. Imagine if they throw in SF, EF and AF, that would rock, but is the most unrealistic.

The HUD is basically an 800x600 texture sitting on top of whatever the engine is rendering, all HUD elements are positioned relative to the top left of this texture. If they did make everything widescreen-compatible, it'd end up squished for the non-widescreen people unless they do some serious work on the engine, and we know they don't have the resources for that anymore.

They should not focus too much on BF2 but instead on BF1943 (PC), BF:BC2, and BF3. This is where people will be playing next as BF2 will be obsolete after this year I predict.

Why don't you just download the image and install the game? I did it too.
