Lucky console players get proper exclusives like Bad Company, while us PC players get exclusives like Heroes.

It's not a console hand me down when they've already explained it's coming three months later so they can make a proper PC release for the game, and not simply a console port. :|:

I'll believe it when I see it. GTA IV came out on PC over 6 months after it did on the consoles, and it was simply a console port.

I guess because it happened with GTA IV that must mean it will happen with every other PC game that is released after its console counterparts.

              /sarcasm

Of course I don't know what will happen with the PC release of 1943, no one does. But it's silly to sit here and bash the game when no one can honestly say what the PC version will be like. And even despite the fact many people will bash DICE for releasing the PC version later and saying it will just be a console port, a number of those individuals will still end up buying the game and playing it.

I'm not overly surprised by this announcement. I haven't played the Heroes beta, but from the videos I've seen, I haven't been impressed. It's possible that early feedback from this "experiment" convinced EA that it just wouldn't be worth it from a financial/profit standpoint to put in the development time, licensing with XBL/PSN, etc, to transfer this game to Console.

I'm interested in both BF1943 and BF:BC2, but Heroes does nothing for me, personally.

Re: Heroes NOT Coming to PS3 or 360

i think its a great pet project for EA - but I hope it fails. I don't want to see PC gaming moving in this direction.

I like the idea of moving away from media (cd's/dvd's) as much as the next guy. But playing a free game and only being able to unlock the neat features reminds me of "trial" or "lite" software. Quicktime and Quicktime Pro. Here's a free gadget but if you really want to use it - that'll be 20 bucks.

I believe it is unethical to give features to some but not others while still calling the game "fair". That's just me and there's a lot of grey area in there. But the marketing and profit strategy of the game reaks of a slippery slope of bad customer service as if you were a number whos value was determined by how much you spent so far.

How long until we have different levels of support for a game. I'm being a bit superficial here but it's hard for me to get comfy with the profit strategy.

And lets face it - if you buy something for heroes - I bet EA won't give you a day to return it for face value if you don't like it (second time no refunds of course).

I don't think DICE or EA is being bad here - I just think they are trying something and seeing how well it does. I consider it a feasibility study. I hope they are disappointed but I applaud the innovation.

As far as the game. I'm sure it will be fun in its own right. Not for me though.

                    @troybob:

I agree in general with what you are saying.

There is an NDA on the beta but the Heroes website is deliberately pointing out that there are only certain things you can purchase with real cash, none of which affect how 'fair' the game is. I think DICE/EA are aware that people might be upset if the game becomes unbalanced between players who do, or don't spend cash in-game.

If this business model does take off, however, it may be the start of a downward spiral - to where I am not sure. You make an interesting point about returns/refunds. Try returning an opened PC game on CD/DVD these days and see how far you get...

But even if they do let you pay for better guns/equipment and it becomes unbalanced, it will probably still be extremely popular. Just look at games like warrock. Warrock is complete garbage compared to BF:Heroes (and compared to any game, really) yet tonnes of people play it simply because it's free.
