Yes!! There needs to be a well done Vietnam War game. It has not been done much. And even though I love WWII games, they have been over done. So BRING on Vietnam!!

To date I can count good Vietnam games on one hand...one finger, Battlefield: Vietnam. I really thing COD could do this war some justice and I am basing this not on its WWII games, but rather the gritty and harsh (nuking the good guys) of Modern Warfare 1.

Not to mention it looks ugly. But why is this always US wars? Sure I love America but what about Israeli wars? What about one of the other 30'000 wars? How about a war in the 1990s in Sierra Leone, playing as a Mercenary, and you can customize your appearance and guns completely, since you're a Merc.

Sales and marketing. Big, "famous" wars will sell better. Forgotten conflicts in some little armpit of the world will not.

Since the vast majority of game sales are in North America and Western Europe, and are younger players, game makers need to cater to what these groups know. A lot of people here and on other FPS forums are history or war buffs...but the majority of paying customers are not.

You're thinking about what you personally think is cool. But that's not what will appeal to the masses and generate sales. Bottom line - gaming is a business, and game makers need to concentrate on what will sell.

with the cold war, doing the afghanistan/russia conflict would be pretty sweet, but doing WiC style would be epic as well

I'm hoping Battlefield will do that first. :p

although i think a Korean War game would be fun, it is too WWII like, the weapons and aircraft (except jets) were basically the same, and fighting the koreans and chinese was the same as fighting the japanese in many ways. Vietnam on the other hand would be absolutely great as long as they dont get caught up too much in the whole "booby trap" theme.

like whisky said, a Cold War type game would be great, but i believe it would require a more vehicle heavy gameplay much better suited for the battlefield franchise.
