Guild Wars Turns 4, Kicks Off Week Long Party

Beginning today, fans of Guild Wars can enjoy nearly a week's worth of festivities within the Guild Wars universe. ArenaNet and NCsoft's Guild Wars series began four years ago on April 28. To celebrate the occasion a number of in-game festivities have been planned. Fireworks, minigames, beetle racing, gifts, enhanced storage space, and much more can all be experienced if you're a Guild Wars player.

In addition, Gamervision has had the good fortune to interview the game's producer, Colin Johanson. Johanson provided some details on the history of Guild Wars and just what keeps bringing players back time and time again.
What has been the most popular addition to the game post-launch?

Johanson: To this day, I think the most popular addition we ever made to the game was something we did as a “thank you” to all our fans for buying the original Guild Wars campaign: the Sorrow’s Furnace Update. We went to work on that project right after Guild Wars launched, and the entire company had this incredible amount of time to work on a relatively small amount of content. We’d all take turns playing Guild Wars during the day, and then go build parts of Sorrow’s Furnace. We’d spend weeks at a time with everyone testing just a few small quests. We dumped an incredible amount of fun, love, and polish into that project. In retrospect, I think we spent about as long on Sorrow’s Furnace as we did on the first half of Factions™ or Nightfall™, and it shows in the quality and polish of the work. We all had a blast working on Guild Wars every day, but I can’t remember any project I enjoyed more than Sorrow’s Furnace, and I feel our fans enjoyed it the most because of how much we all adored working on it.

You can check out the rest of the interview here. Details on the day to day festivities for the four year anniversary can be found at the official Guild Wars website. Happy birthday, Guild Wars!
