I've never seen so many dumb posts on the first page of a news thread before in all these years... :shakehead:

      Dear PC Gamer(s),

I know you might feel disappointed about the PC release being in September rather than June, but you should be very happy to know this is to give us the proper development time to create a proper PC version of Battlefield 1943 and not a console port. To the contrary of some less informed fans out there this is in no means an intentional ploy to punish our PC fans. And is in fact quite the opposite, we want to make the best damn PC version we can for our PC fans!

Not to bore your eyes out with endless text about the how's and do's I will say to make this a proper PC version we need a completed core game to develop over and remember we already released Battlefield Bad Company with the Frostbite Engine on the consoles, so this will be first PC game ever released using Frostbite! PCs are an open platform requiring additional features, support, technical consideration, and can't just be thrown out there using copy/paste. We have thought very carefully about this decision and in the long run felt it was the right choice even though we knew we'd catch some flak for it, but we feel once you play the first Frostbite PC game ever from DICE you'll see why we put this extra time and care in on the development making all right again in the universe. I hope this helps clear things up better and answers your concern(s).

You can find the original post he made over on the EA forums.
Take a deep breath before throwing yourselves off of any bridges, people. A lot of the comments in this thread are out of anger/frustration (understandable), but without knowing much about real-world game development.

There's more than one way to skin a cat, so to speak. A PC game can be developed simultaneously with Console versions, or, it can be done afterward. Neither way is "right"...it depends on the developer. If a simultaneous release, then sometimes it may not receive as much attention as people would like, and may not be "PC-specific" enough. With a delay of a few months, there is more of a chance that it can receive that attention if indeed DICE is being truthful.

And forget any comments/ideas about "just make it a PC game". Unless you're a PC-only developer, there's just not enough money in it to be worthwhile. Period. This is a business, not a high-school fantasy. PC and Consoles have to be interlinked in the development process to be efficient and make max profit.

I'm not saying to be a fanboy and believe them blindly, but being overly pessimistic and negative is just as pointless. They've explained what they're doing and why...now it's time for us to watch closely and see what info/results come from here on out. That's making an informed decision, not an irrational one based on emotion and false assumption. There's enough of that crap on the Web already.

This could also mean free for PC. Activision has done this with the COD map packs, they sell it to the console players for a month at $10 then bring it out for PC for free. Now the COD5 Map Pack sold 1 million copies in one month, that's $10 million in a month, pretty much pure profit. It was very easy for them to give the maps to the PC players for free at that point, they didn't try to get greedy and collect every dollar they could have. FYI the Map Pack was very good. The success of the COD extra content is that they just do maps that are easily integrated into the game. Dice has failed on their extra content because they treat it like a seperate game that is not easily meshed in with the main game. It is extra trouble for the server owners to set it up and the extra content never gets played.

One thing that these game manufacturers have to realize is that NVIDIA and ATI depend on PC gamers to sell their product. If there are no PC games these companies loose a lot of profit, which hurts research into future cards for consoles and other products.

              .
it will not be free, that's for sure. You can't compare a map pack to a game even if its a small game.

I really want to know one thing......

Do they have the same 5 guys doing the PC version as the console version, or do they ship it off to some independent company in the third world to port it to PC?

Whilst I don't always agree with EA/DICE's tactics and I question their thinking behind bringing out what seems like two half titles, I also believe in giving something a chance and not shooting it down before we've even seen proper gameplay footage.

It's a good thing that DICE are open to new ideas, the last thing we would want is a company that brings out "new" games every 2 years that in fact just a slightly modified version of an old title.

As for the release date, as much as may not like it, there are numerous reasons behind it. Obviously, by slightly delaying the title they can maximise console sales without the risk of those being taken away by piracy of a PC version. Also, as they say, it's their first Frostbite game for PC and they won't want to release a half arsed game again and incur the wrath of these "loyal BF fans".

So give them time, let them prove what they have to offer and if you still don't like it, then complain to your hearts content.

If this were an Ubisoft title i would agree with you on the outsourcing.

Re: Battlefield 1943 Arrives June 15 on the 360 and PS3

I'm pretty sick about reading post that are saying dice knows its going to suck or fail so they're waiting to bring it out to pc.

thats is just plan retarded and stupid, Yes IMO they should have released the game to console and pc at the same time. but they're not. I usally wont agree with their excuse to why a pc version of a game will come later but this time im with them

Like they said, they have made BF Bad Company for xbox and ps3 before, there for they already know how the frostbite engine performs and how to make the game run on console's. they have not made a pc version of this frostbite engine (which they are doing now) the engine will have to be able to work not only for people with dual core systems but maybe quad core systems, people on xp, vista, 64 bit os, who knows maybe Linux. as well as the different video cards. not everyone will be running the same thing. as for consoles there's only 2 variables. ps3 and xbox 360 compatible. each console has the same hardware. It wont take them long to perfect the ps3 version and the 360 version, as for the pc version they must trouble shoot everything.

Here is something i didnt hear yet from anyone.

I bet you guys that dice is using this game (pc only) as a tester to see how the game runs and performs on pc before Battlefield bad company 2 is released.

once they release this game to pc. you know there will be at least a patch or update or two. i think they are going to use this game as a stepping stone so they can make sure bad company 2 will be perfect for pc.

now imo i think its dumb for them to release the console version this early. they should have postponed the console version till the pc version is done. that way, we pc gamers dont feel or think that we are being jipped out plus you would never know that the game was ready for console but they waited to the pc version.

when dice and ea were going to tech shows advertising this up-coming game they made the mistake on when it would be out. if the knew that they would have the console out but the pc version would take longer to perfect, they should have NEVER said anything to the public and kept there mouths shut. that way we would have NEVER known that the game was really done, AND when it was released, everyone Console and pc alike would be able to play the game.

if this game flops on the console, people are knowingly going to find out either from playing the console version (maybe a friend has a 360 or whatever) or reviews and talk on online forums. and that will KILL sales for pc version. if they released the game, it would have sold allot on both console and pc.

                            ALSO
who ever says piracyabout this game or any Battlefield game should be slapped. being that this is a multilayer only game. piracy is NOTHING to worry about. yes people are still going to be able to download a cracked copy but good luck playing it online. only thing they can do is play lan. if someone finds a way to crack is so you can run cracked servers theres only going to be what 1 or 2 cracked servers and that's 20-40 people.

i think we should know that, yes they screwed up on when its coming out for what, but not cry about something you dont know to be true. just sit it out and wait for the pc version. we are lucky that they are making a pc version. They could have made this a Console only Arcade game. and that what this is. its just a small game with three maps. console's have made ALLOT of money off of these so called "Arcade" type games. we should be thankful that we are even getting this for pc. they could have just made this for console (and only have bad company 2 come out for pc) but like i said above. they probably are putting this out to pc to test the water's on how the frostbite engine runs on pc so they can tweak it.
