That could mean anything and is a classic tactic by EA.

DING DING DING. Hence the stringing along of the fan base.

The first statement is totally wrong. It actually makes much more sense that BF3 is not yet either officially announced, or being released. If more people put some actual thought into it, instead of making emotional statements because they are disappointed it's not here yet, they'd understand why.

As for the second, I'll disagree. Some of the original fans of BF on PC may leave, as the game may be changing too much for their tastes. But overall, more and more people are now being exposed to the idea of BF, just like COD did with COD4, by putting them on Consoles, and the general growth and advertising/info on the Web now, as compared to when 1942/BF2 first came out. A lot more PC users will now try BFBC2, because they heard about it from their Console friends, or they saw it in stores, or on the Net. A lot of those users will like it, and they'll be around when BF3 comes out.

Gaming is cyclical. There are always players leaving, and new ones being found. The doom-and-gloom drama that many people like to predict usually doesn't happen. Bottom line - even if it's different than before, if the new games are good, they'll sell well and attract a lot of players, whether new or existing. If the games aren't, they won't.
