CoD4 for BAFTA Awards, Not CoD:WW

Activision has made an interesting decision to put CoD4 in the running for the BAFTA awards instead of CoD:WW. Yes, CoD:WW has had problems, but it has also had great sales and it was also released in 2008, but apparently, games released late in 2007 were eligible for the awards. Read more below:
"Call of Duty Modern Warfare missed the deadline for the 2007 Awards and so Activision elected to put that game forward for this year's Awards and chose not to enter World at War this time. We can only judge those games which are entered for BAFTA consideration."

Therefore, Treyarch might be lucky enough to be entered next year; though we doubt this since the game didn't miss the 2008 deadline. Furthermore, other video games released after Modern Warfare in 2007, weren't afforded the same virtue. Still, as BAFTA said, it's down to the publisher to submit the games for consideration, meaning they might not have realized that late-2007 games were eligible.

This also seems like a very strange decision because well all saw the sales charts and how CoD:WW dominated UK sales for weeks...this does not make sense in my opinion.

Thanks to FPSadmin for the news.

Great, how about releasing some new DLC for it along with fixing some of those last little bugs and adding those neat Death Cams from the console to the PC.

Ranger, what are you talking about? CoD4 was perfect from release. There were no problems.

I really hate how they keep advertising CoD4 around, but forget to keep the game refreshing with occassional updates.

They brag a lot about CoD4. I went to their official website one time and they had a big logo that said something like "CoD4 on Family Guy!!!" and I even remember the episode a little bit. It was the one when Peter met Jesus and Jesus became famous and he went on Jay Leno's show and he asked Jesus what he's been doing and Jesus says something like "Just playing some call of duty 4". It was such a small line yet the cod4 devs/publishers made such a big deal about it lol

It's cheap marketing. With COD:MW2 coming this Fall, it's not a bad idea to remind people of how big a hit COD4 was.

And even though we've heard some great sales figures for COD:WW, especially in the UK, I think COD4 is generally recognized as a better game by most people. I think the technical flaws of COD:WW may have left a bad taste in the mouths of many, so even though it's "late", it probably makes more sense for Activision to submit COD4 for this competition, considering how many other "game of the year"-type awards it earned.

Look at the multiplayer numbers via xfire and xbox life its still one of the most popular games out there and higher in terms of people playing it over World at War.

Yet nothing gets close to World of Warcraft. And I wouldn't play that if my life depended on it lol.

And actually, my life does depend on it b/c everyone on my xfire who ends up playing that has no life, haha.

In terms of online numbers on the PC world at war failed big time compared to COD4. Right now, according to game-monitor.com, CoD4 has 31k people playing and world at war only has 4.7k...

JD claims there are 20 thousand people playing this game at peak. He says no one else can see the real numbers. I think he's full of crap, but that's just me. The most I've seen on gametracker or game-monitor is ~5500. That's the highest I've even seen.

You talking about Air Strike cam and stuff? They have them.... they got that before the console.

Is he referring to all platforms maybe?

Either that, or they're somehow able to see the number of people playing co-op & online zombie mode, which could account for several thousand more players (although I still can't see it anywhere near 20,000).

But, for online MP, I tend to trust game-monitor.com's numbers. Using the in-game browser and opening up all filters, it's easy to see that there are only a couple thousand people playing that mode. Unless they're also claiming there's a problem with the browser or the way the game master servers are reporting players/servers.

From what we can see on the users' side at least, CODWW's online MP numbers for PC are nowhere near COD4's. In fact, using game-monitor.com searches, COD2 is almost always reporting more online MP numbers than CODWW.

Didn't we have a big contest for new maps for COD4 that never went anywhere?

The PC version of COD4 still doesn't have the newer kill cams, only the player POV, not the bullet ones (follow the bullet, bomb or nade). I just think if they are gonna back track and use one of there prior games like COD4 and use it as a cash cow since your new game didn't do so well then at least give us new content or fix some of the last little bugs that the community is complaining about.

I am not asking for nerving, I don't want anything nerved. Just some of the bugs that people are abusing like extreme condition (certain silenced weapons and the M21) and the AK47 doing silencer damage with a red dot fixed. Some new maps based off that community contest would be really f-ing nice too, after all we were all expecting that and never got anything out of it.

They said due to copyright licenses and yadda yadda, those community maps never got to be released. Sux for the mappers. :hmm:
