    Battlefield 1943: Pacific Officially Announced

Well, it looks like the rumors were true - DICE has announced today that Battlefield 1943: Pacific is in development. BF1943 seems to be essentially a remake of the Pacific Theatre of Battlefield 1942, brought into the future with DICE's own Frostbite engine. But that's not all - BF1943 will be released for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. Is this the Battlefield 3 we have been waiting for?

Enough speculation, let's get down to business with the trailer and official announcement on Battlefield.com:

It's kinda funny that everyone wants the exact opposite in the next PC BF.

        An obscene number of maps
        64 players, at least
        Good server browser

And they went the exact opposite way with BF:1943 and BF:BC2 :|:

I'll stay optimistic though because I'm almost sure we haven't heard all of the story yet. I mean, the thing was just announced.

I wonder if it is really going to be on PCs ? What do they mean by "on PC for download" ?

Hmmm... Might be fun to put Eve of Destruction into this as a mod when it is released. Providing that it actually does come out on PC. After all, using the Pacific Theatre of BF1942 as a starting point to do Vietnam is how EoD got its original start long ago.

I just hope that they up the specs a little bit in the number of players, etc. for the PC based version, since computer graphic power and other aspects of PC's are so much better than console games.

              fail
Fix'd. Not to say I wouldn't welcome more BF, but how is this really BF? It's like the difference between a full length feature film and a 5 minute sketch. If this is what DICE was claiming the hardcore PC gamers would be looking forward to in 2009 then it's not a good sign. If this is just a 'sneak peek' of a true, 64 player, 12+ map, full-scale BF game they will be doing, then good on ya, DICE. I'd love another WW2-style BF game, but this seems to lack the 'BF game' part.

                I'm guessing steam.

I wouldn't pay more than £5 for this considering this is pretty much the same volume of content you get in those booster packs dice loves so much.

I guess, like BF:Heroes, mods will not be allowed for BF1943.

                  @Deesies : Why not, I think 5£ is a good price, but i bet on 10£.

I just don't see how they can release BC2 as BF3. They aren't the least bit comparable. They're completely different games.

This is what has me the most excited - we finally get a chance to mess around with Frostbite on PC.

One can only hope that the PC version is considerably different from teh console version like GRAW 2 or Battlefield 2.

This is not "BF3", rather, as one said, it's something to keep PC players happy until BF3 is out, which now seems like it'll be 2010 at the earliest.

The fact that the game is on the Frostbite engine confirms that Frostbite on PC is a reality, and that BF3 will definitely be using it.

BF3 is coming no sooner than 2010

I don't think it will be 2010. With Bad Company 2 coming out on PC next year, it wouldn't really make sense to have a PC exclusive battlefield at the same time.

In that case, BF3 may be a long, long way from now. BF:BC 2 for PC will simply have a few more multiplayer slots, nothing else.

In which case it would be really sad for those (like us) who love BF2.
