Battlefield: Bad Company 2 Officially Announced - PC Release

Although EA already told us that Bad Company 2 was coming (perhaps by accident), we now have official word from DICE as well as a single screenshot. Take heed of the fact that Bad Company 2 will be released for Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and PC. Is this the Battlefield 3 that we have been waiting for?

DICE today announced Battlefield: Bad Company 2™, the sequel to last year’s blockbuster title. In this installment, the Bad Company crew again find themselves in the heart of the action, where they must use every weapon and vehicle at their disposal to survive. The action unfolds with unprecedented intensity, introducing a level of fervor to vehicular warfare never before experienced in a modern warfare action game. To get ready for the assault this winter, players can prepare for action in Battlefield 1943™, an all-new multiplayer game available this summer via PlayStation®Store, Xbox LIVE™ Marketplace and on the PC.

In Battlefield: Bad Company 2, the ‘B’ company fight their way through snowy mountaintops, dense jungles and dusty villages. With a heavy arsenal of deadly weapons and a slew of vehicles to aid them, the crew set off on their mission and they are ready to blow up, shoot down, blast through, wipe out and utterly destroy anything that gets in their way. Total destruction is the name of the game, delivered as only the DICE next generation Frostbite™ engine can. Either online or offline, enemies will soon learn there is nowhere to hide. Battlefield: Bad Company 2 will be available for the Xbox 360® videogame and entertainment system, the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and the PC.

Using the same Frostbite™ engine, Battlefield 1943 takes players back to WWII. The game offers endless hours of 24 player multiplayer action over three classic and tropic locations; Wake Island, Guadalcanal and Iwo Jima. Delivering the award-winning through-the-gun and vehicle warfare online experience DICE is best recognized for, Battlefield 1943 will have players battling in ruthless aerial dog fights and intense trench combat. Players can see the game in action at New York Comic Con (Booth #1441) from February 6th-8th.

“Bad Company 2 takes everything that players liked in the original and ups the ante – more vehicles, more destruction and more team play,” said Karl Magnus Troedsson, Executive Producer Battlefield Franchise, DICE. “Battlefield 1943 is a new take on a blast from the past classic coming to life with brand new technology that we’re eager to get into players hands.”
You can check out the rather sparse Bad Company 2 website for more details.

Unless the PC version is radically different from the console version, I don't think I'll really care about this

Well if it is anything like BFBC right now, this will be great IMHO. And plus a PC release, DICE never said that the hardcore PC Battlefield game would be PC exclusive.

that little screenshot reminds me of one area on cerebere landing. i hope snow and ice is not prevalent, god knows we had enough in BF2142.

I wonder if this is meant to be BF3.

Also is meant to be released for Q1 2010.

i think this is the BF3 title for PC. they haven't announced whether it's 64 players or not, so i hope people stop trippin' that it's a 24 player game like 1943. i have a feeling they will make it 64 for PC and make this the BF3 modern combat game people have been asking for. a separate BF3 title just doesn't make sense as it will further scatter online players.

                    Very true.

But for the love of god, i really want a PC exclusive BF title.

To be be truthful my hopes and expectations of any further titles from DICE have diminished some what.

People want their cake and eat it too, you just can’t. You want massively destructible environments and player counts in the 64 or higher range, the amount of extra network bandwidth needed for the updates to be sent to each client dictates lower player counts.

I’m just glad they’re releasing on the PC platform this time.

My only main concern at this point is that they have a proper dedicated server setup and don't rely on people hosting the game off of their DSL/Cable modem connections.

and that they properly support widescreen monitor resolutions without zooming in the view to claustrophobic levels and then cropping the top and bottom of your view.

How's this going to work? Is it going to continue the story from BF:BC? If so, are we expected to have already played BF:BC so we can follow the story? Will there be a story at all? If so, say "hi" to loads of piracy, DICE, because we all know games with singleplayer gets pirated to death. The BF series have been immune to piracy simply because of the fact that time wasn't wasted on a singleplayer.

Not to mention the fact that the PC version will feel very downgraded compared to what could have been achieved if it was a PC exclusive.

It’s not like the story in Bad Company was an epic yarn, there’s not much more that wise cracks between your team mates interrupted by some lady over your coms telling you to attack point A and then move on to point B.

They could bring PC gamers up to speed with a two minute cut scene montage of "previously on Bad Company".

                            I'll wait for more news
