    Battlefield: 1943 Pacific?!

    Some eagle-eyed members of our forums noticed a news post on Jeuxactu.com, a French gaming website, reporting that EA/DICE has supposedly announced a new Battlefield game dubbed Battlefield 1943 Pacific, for Xbox 360 and PS3. Here's the article in question, courtesy of Google Translate:
    While the first images of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 are still waiting, Electronic Arts and DICE have announced a new variation of the Battlefield license, which will operate the latest version of the Frostbite engine: Battlefield 1943 Pacific. This umpteenth FPS on the Pacific will allow players s'étriper social Conquest mode on three of the most famous maps of Battlefield 1942: Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima and Wake Island. Destructible buildings, vehicles flying, rolling or floating, the worshipers of the series will not be at home but frankly can unwind in the idyllic scenery, galvanized by the soft roar of 23 other angry. Hostilities begin this summer on X360 and PS3.

    Update: In addition, Kotaku is pointing to a listing of events at the New York Comic Con that indicated "Battlefield 1943: Pacific Postcards" would be handed out. The mentions of Battlefield 1943 have since been removed, but Google has come to the rescue yet again with Google Cache storing the page. Go see for yourself, here's the excerpt that seems to prove the existence of this game:
    Friday, February 6th -
    2:00 pm – EA Poster Tubes; 3:00 pm – Dragon Age Posters BattleForge 1v1 Tournament – tournament will be held at the BattleForge Kiosk; 4:00 pm – Battlefield 1943: Pacific Postcards; 5:00 pm – BattleForge 2v2 Tournament – tournament will be held at the BattleForge Kiosk; 6:00 pm – Spore Galactic Adventures T-Shirts

    Update #2:
    According to VG247, BF1943 is real:
    VG247 has learned from a European source that the rumored Battlefield 1943: Pacific is “real, but still under wraps.”

    The game will be shown in Europe this week, so we should know more very soon.

    Update #3:

    Well, it's no longer just a rumor. DICE has officially announced Battlefield 1943 Pacific, for PS3, Xbox 360, and PC. Read...

        DICE is sleeping right now. I guess we'll find out more when Sweden wakes up. In the meantime, I'll keep updating this story with any future developments.

          So is it safe to say that the hard-core PC battlefield series is officially over, then?

              Why do you say that? Like I've said 8000 times before, DICE is more than capable of developing several games at once, even several Battlefield games. PC games are more complex and they've got Frostbite all figured out for PS3 and 360, maybe they're just taking their time while popping off console releases to fill the gaps?

                But they said they had five games in development, and now all five games have been announced. Heroes, mirror's edge, BF:BC, BF:BC2, and now BF1943

                  Five Battlefield games, so Mirror's Edge doesn't count

                    well I remember them saying something about some battlefield Korean game, so since that hasn't been announced then I guess that could replace Mirror's Edge.

                      Heroes is based of popular Korean style MMO games. Perhaps this is it?...

                        Tomeis is right. You're just going to have to accept that dice does not have any traditional BF games planned. It'll be years before you hear anything, if ever.

                          Nah by Korean I think they meant a game based in the Korean market. Besides, BF:H is quite the opposite of a Korean style MMO. It's closer to TF2, if anything.

                            They said the games consisted of BF:BC, Heroes, a Korean project, another console BF, and didn't comment on the fifth. If this Battlefield 1943 rumor is true, the five games are as follows:

                            * BF Bad Company
                            * BF Heroes
                            * BF Korean Project (which isn't "Battlefield Korea", just a game by Koreans for Koreans)
                            * BF Bad Company 2
                            * BF 1943 Pacific

                            So what we're essentially getting is a console-ported, minimalist Battlefield 1942 on a new engine. Take out two of the theaters (Europe and Africa), leave only 3 maps, take 40 playing slots away, and you've got a new Battlefield 1943 in place of the BF3 we all wanted and openly expressed interest in.

                            I know it's early days, and this hasn't been confirmed or anything, but if what we've been given by the French site is true... this really sucks.

                            Who knows, we may be getting a BF1943 with 12 maps, 64 players, PC-only, 54 vehicles and all that. The French site may be grossly wrong. I still think another WWII game is a horrible idea, and that "BF3" would have been way better, but all EA/DICE have confirmed at this stage is the title (via the Comic Con listing and apparently a post at the EA forums). Hopefully the French site is wrong.

                            I think it's just time to face the fact that DICE/EA have ignored and abandoned their enormous PC market. If we ever get a Battlefield 3, or a PC-exclusive "hardcore PC" (just like they promised, wankers), it will be years away.

                            I can't believe that. "We're keeping the hardcore-PC guys very happy. All we can say is, patience". What a crock. How can you put out FIVE freaking Battlefield games and not have ONE cater to your original (and massive) market?

                              Actually, I wouldn't touch the game unless it had more than 64 players, and bigger maps than BF2/PR. Otherwise, what's the point? I could just play BF1942. It would be a disappointment if we go backwards, rather than forwards in technology. After all, our computers these days are overkill for pretty much every single game on the market, and that doesn't look like it's going to change for a while. Give me a reason to spend money on my computer.
