Consoles are where the money is at because it's easier to develop to a fixed hardware platform. I really can't imagine piracy being a problem for any of the Battlefield PC games, you would have to be pretty lame to enjoy the game but only play on some handful of cracked servers.

      meh.

i'll wait for PC news. I hate console shooters (but to each their own - lets not forget we got three BF titles before the consoles did)

Piracy doesn't affect online games like BF2, so that's no excuse.

If BC2 is going to be released on Frostbite, then we also have to add BF2142 to earlier list of PC release titles (don't recall the exact release date, but it was October/November 2006). That's actually less time between the release of BF2 and BF2142 than it is for BC and BC2.

And for those that say since BF2142 is on the same engine as BF2 it's basically just a mod, you may have a point but that's why I was asking if BC2 is on the same engine as BC. BF2142 did use BF2's engine, but the games are so different from one another that unless you knew beforehand that they were on the same engine you'd probably not be able to make that connection between the two. BF2142 has never felt like a BF2 mod to me, and I've played both games extensively.

So even though the consoles have gotten the latest attention and press, that doesn't mean it's gotten the only attention. I'm hoping for a BF3 just as much as you guys are, but I seriously doubt EA/DICE has completely abandoned the PC fanbase.

I just hope I'm right and this isn't just blind optimism on my part. :p

hit the nail on the head. its not piracy that makes companies shy away from PC gaming, its the fact that consoles are now pretty much just computers but their hardware never changes. This means they don't need to test the game on all sorts of hardware combinations just to get it to work.

It's just much much easier to develop and market a game on the consoles than the PC's - even though the PC market allows more depth in gaming.

but its not really about the games is it? its about the money!

with all the bad console ports lately, i just hope dice isnt putting too much effort into the console version of the engine and leaving the pc unoptimized.

and i doubt alot that piracy was ever an issue for BF.

I'm hoping this is a good PC release. If they ramped up BF:BC (as they said they were doing for BF:BC2), it could have potential as a hardcore PC Battlefield game. That being said, a straight up port of Bad Company to PC would have been horrible.

This will be boom or bust. Amazing or appalling.

I'm just hoping the PC version is considerably different with large maps, 32+ players and comes witha server browser.

On the contrary, BF2 sold more than 2 million copies in its first year compared to Battlefield Bad Company, which sold a little over 1 million copies on 2 platforms combined.
