Re: gCOPS - New World Order of the Gaming World
So essentially I can play in 1 server using gCOPS and another not, and I wouldn't be tagged. I like the idea of the tagging being used with "like" servers, rather than being tagged on all servers.
The idea is great, and it really shouldn't be a problem in it that not everyone is going to use this. I wouldn't use it, for the simple fact that I'm more chillax about things, its a game, we shouldn't have to worry about being careful with what we say in the chat and such, like someone said before, parents shouldn't let their kids play this game if they're afraid of their kids seeing things or reading things they shouldn't be. The game is vulgar itself lol.
This will be abused, and that is a fact. But then again, I doubt that a lot of people will use this, because it is so subjective, I'd say about 5-10% of the community will take advantage of this program, and out of that 5-10%, 3-6% will abuse it.
But good luck with it, I hope it turns out to be a good system, and hopefully I'm wrong about the abuse part, but I really doubt it.

Re: gCOPS - New World Order of the Gaming World
Thank you for taking the time to read each of the posts and for posting here sir.
As you also read in the posts, we do see promise in such a program as long as there are checks and balances. I saw the news about your gCOPS program on a couple of "admin focused" news sites, so they obviously focused on the admin's capabilities.
I like the potential of this program if:
1)The tagging pertains to 'like' servers as you said. That way a tactical clan is not ruining you for other gametypes, but instead only other tactical servers would see that you might be disruptive for their gametype.
2)That you can have gamer reviews of clans and their conduct also. That would definitely keep things in check also.
I also realize that gamers could then abuse their power and try to destroy a clan. Ah, nerd wars.
Having base options is also a great idea b/c I would trust your judgment of which tags to be used over letting a clan put whatever they want.
Feel free to send any news on your program this way and I am sure our forum members would be more than happy to offer feedback/constructive criticism on how to make it the best possible program for the community.Leave a comment:

Hi guys,
Everything mentioned about the possibilities of abuse are entirely correct, noted and realized. The one thing we all have to remember is that gCOPS isn't about banning at all and therefore won't interfere with your copy of the game.
Arbitration will be a part of the gCOPS system and a clan's reputation will also be a part of the system. All points being generated by the community itself. So in effect, a check would be in place regarding a clan's conduct of it's use of gCOPS. Peer review essentially.
As well, the "paper" that's circulating around at the moment is a first rough draft but one that describes fairly well what it is that Joker and I are up to.
As far as GLOBAL tagging goes, it will only be global in the sense that the tag will appear on any server joined that is actually subscribed to the originating tag owner's account. That way, rule sets that pertain to say, a sniper only server will more than likely show up on other "like" servers. No point of someone who's been tagged for "run and gunning" to have their tag show up on a frag server.
The whole point of gCOPS is a way for clans to share information if they so choose (You do not have to opt in to the global system if you do not want to.) As well, any other clan wanting to subscribe to your data can only do so if you confirm the request.
You create your own rule sets from a predefined list of "base" rules and that's it. Your choices, your data, your game. =)
And yes to answer many of you who say that a system like this is subjective. Well, it is very subjective and that is why there is a need for such a tool. A lot of time and effort is spent by admins to keep their server "clean" as far as their own clan/server rules apply. PB and PBBans cannot help you there at all.
As a matter of fact gCOPS cannot either but it can help you record troublesome players that apply to your rules and tag them if you like and then share that information with other clans that may or may not be close to your own.
All of this is in it's early stages so any and all feedback is truly welcome. The BETA1 is getting close but we're not quite there yet.
This Sunday we'll be on BashAndSlash for any and all that would like to listen and fire questions our way.
Cheers!

Re: gCOPS - New World Order of the Gaming World
The irony of reflecting what is being said in this post back on what is written in this post, keeps cracking me up when I read it. :laugh:Nah i think that you looks like you were born in the gutter somewhere.
If you are in publicspaces, and a public server is, you should behave not going on like a 2 -year old child. Its that simple, Public=behave and dont hide behind the anonymity of your PC.
We are all there to have fun, and we dont need the bratz like you there.
Worst thing in cod community is all the whiners that think they are tough, calling nicknames here and there when they get killed, and acting like a ***.
If you dont have any good to say just shut it cause you aint alone on the field and you dont own the field and you cant act like a jack***. its that simple.
You mother should have learnt you that, its called respect for others.Leave a comment:

Just don't let your little brother come on if this actually comes because then you're screwed. Seriously, they're making it as if you're the only person playing the game. There can be other people in your house who play your game and your account. What if you're brother starts getting pissed and curses everyone and you have to pay for it? And yes that system is widely open to admin abuse. Piss of one admin for owning him and you're pretty much banned from all server that run w/e that is
The thing is that not all people have been taught well and they feel the need to curse others to feel better and actually sometimes it may just come out by accident. Its not because he's born in the gutter that he see's that stuff. Its really out there, its everywhere. People cursing, its not just in private places, or in the ghettos or in the bad places in the world. Its everywhere. especially in the publicNah i think that you looks like you were born in the gutter somewhere.

Re: gCOPS - New World Order of the Gaming World
lol, let us know how that goes Basil.
Personally, I've never been a cusser who just cusses for no reason, "throw it any sentence why not." I usually think it's a sign of ignorance that a better word could not be thought of or chosen. However, I am guilty in my past of using it in sports profusely and in gaming competitions. Basically, I am very competitive and I get quite into it. Luckily, I've learned to control my anger which obviously nullified the cussing.
And they actually call that Big Brother...wow. The nerve of those people! >_<Leave a comment:

Re: gCOPS - New World Order of the Gaming World
BF2 can already do that and even autokick for baserape.B3 (Big Brother Bot) will scan the server log in real-time, therefore you can get it to instantly kick people if they swear, or even warn them a few times before kicking them...
Although I think it requires a few things which most server companies won't offer:
1. Python 2.3+ - http://www.python.org
2. MySQL-python (Tested with 1.0 and 1.2.2) - http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...ckage_id=15775
3. MySQL (Tested with MySQL 5) - http://www.mysql.com/
4. Python Elementtree package - http://effbot.org/downloads/#elementtree
5. setuptools - http://peak.telecommunity.com/dist/ez_setup.py (download and run)

So if I'm watching a R movie, it's okay for me to act like Tourette's guy in the theater? Swearing implies neither maturity nor immaturity to me, but like I said before, not being able to control it is immature. At least Redfield made some good arguements without having to always resort to swearing.Leave a comment:
