Please Random. Saying "look at the reviews" is like saying, "Dont take my word for it, look for yourself." Cryptik didnt say he only looked at reviews.

By the way, hows your reviews coming along?

They have butchered this series enough, time to put it down.
Imo, the last good NFS was NFS4: High Stakes. I played the **** out of it.

I understand your point. The way he said his statement irritated me though. It sounded like he was giving too much importance to reviews, but again I qualified by saying if he was solely basing his opinion off of reviews. Because he isn't, his opinion is valid, but a little too opinionated for my tastes. This is coming from a guy who enjoys yahtzee calling bs on everything he sees as a flaw, so I'm a hypocrite I guess.

I just reviewed the Fire Emblem games on GBA games today. I guess that makes me a hypocrite again because I want people to believe in what I say throughout my review. Oh well, que sera, sera.

When you take a score such as that from Metacritic, why shouldn't you trust review scores? At least at a place like MC, there is an average of scores to base your purchase upon without trying a game for yourself.

I've long since stopped reading single review scores from sites and instead focus on the average picking up pros and cons from each review to base my decision on when I cannot play a game for myself.

Here's your aggregate review site's functionality.

Compare the critics and the users.
Go to http://www.totalgamingnetwork.com/ma...d.php?t=181661 to see what other players have to say about the game and its issues.

The discrepancy is fairly large even with Metacritic.

Re: Need for Speed Series May be Finished

Because more often than not the users tend to base their "reviews" off of exceptional expectations or comparisons to other titles in the series. I use that term loosely, especially in the case of FC2 given how the second title has almost nothing to do with the first.

Reviewers must go in with 0 expectations, 0 hopes, and evaluate the game at face value. Even at Metacritic, they admitted their user reviews are flawed, especially after the whole Gears 2 disaster there where "fanboys" spammed the site with low reviews for the game.

I'd much rather trust the average of professional reviewers than what users say most any day of the week.

I'm not saying the users are wrong. But as it is, they tend to lower their "review" scores drastically for some very minor things. I haven't had much time with GTA4 on the PC, but if I did, it would score just a bit lower than if I were reviewing it for the consoles.

The gameplay and story are untouched. And really, some of the technical issues would be the only downfall. It's hard to quantify those sorts of issues as they are not happening to everybody or to the same degree.

You mean you would lower the scores between the console editions and the pc edition in the reviewing GTA 4 part because of minor differences?

I think the problem with most reviewers is they focus too much on things that don't matter that much to the player. After having written my late Halo 2 review several years after most sites had reviewed the game, I went back and read some of them. They were so positive in spite of the continuation of problems from the first game and new problems. Some even seemed to think the multiplayer absolved the single player's faults and gave the game a 10/10.

In my opinion, the two deserve to be separated and given separate attention. You say these reviewers have no expectations/hopes/etc., but they have already tried demos, talked with the developers, been given inside looks at the game, etc. and these actions could influence their opinions to alter their review. Also, what person can honestly say they don't hope something rises to the hype/expectations/etc.? If they don't compare it to previous games in the series, what do they compare it to? I would rather they take a slight comparison to the series, so it can give long time series' fans an idea of what the game will change for them or what they won't enjoy, but they need to be willing to accept series adapting.

I do concur somewhat. Users can take an issue and base a whole review on it, but most of us aren't this callous. I'm an average joe reviewer and I have tons of issues with games (sometimes based on previous games or just the situation a game presents itself with), but I temper them with compliments for what they do right. The thing is, most reviews I read seem to ignore things that could ruin a game other than major problems such as "oh, the story's ending sucked, but I won't mention the enemies don't seem to have accurate ammo counters, which will really piss you off when you are having difficulties getting to the crappy ending.".

Reviewers are a mixed grab bag, which is good, but to get true face value, you need to plop a person down in front of a game which they have never heard of before and ask their opinion. This is why companies ask for random game testers instead of their biggest fans or reviewers who have information privy to a select few.

Zomg, I wrote a ton.

Hmm I read quite recently that EA had decided to make a new NFS titale each year, just like the Fifa games etc. Making such a sharp turn because of one game not reaching top 20 seems a bit harsh.

It's about time they let this franchise die, hopefully this will mean something different for once.

I haven't really liked any of the NFS games. I mean they're ok games but not my thing.

It's just simple the series is not bringing in the money anymore like it use to in the 90's and early 2000's now with many more competitors throwing out better car games and your loosing out then that is what is going to happen. I think that they might take some of the NFS aspects and put them into a new Burnout Paradise if they do make another.

The last need for speed I bought was Need for Speed: Underground which I think came out in 2002? 2003? One of those years was the only game of the series that I loved and played for hours and hours and hours. After all the games after that just went down hill. Like Need for Speed: Underground 2 the sequel.

That tried to turn it into a like RPG thingy sorta like Gran Turismo series. Which I loved already how the arcadey feel of the first underground was the second underground they screwed up with that RPG type feel.

Thank you EA! I hope the idiots who decided to make the game "gangsta street underground" and completely demolish what the series used to be, are laid off. Every time one of these piles of garbage was released, I'd weep softly, die a little inside, and hug my copy of NFS3.
