Happy 15th Birthday to Doom

A little fact that seems to have gone overlooked by most is the fact that today, December 10, marks the 15 year anniversary since the original Doom was released!

Crafted lovingly by gaming legends John Carmack, John Romero, and a host of other people, some of who weren't named John, Doom is credited with pioneering networked multiplayer PC gaming, immersive 3D graphics, and the ability for players to create and share their own custom-built expansions. The game is estimated to have been downloaded by over 10 million players over the first two years of release, with ports spanning 16 PC platforms and 11 different console gaming systems, not including source ports.

It was on December 10, 1993 that Doom was released. With Doom 4 having been announced back in May, the series is still very much alive and kicking. Happy Birthday, Doom!

I hope Doom never dies, even tho I am only 14, I had some fun memories playing Doom and Quake on my old mac.

OMG! Now that is a date I'll celebrate! I need to go downstairs and put a candle on a holiday cupcake!

Blow that thing out like an ArchVile. I have to say that it was because of Doom that I got the job I have. I might have never started down the path of computer technology if it were not for the desire to network Doom.

And I still fire it up now and then to run through some old WAD files I have stored on my computer from 14 years ago...OMG, it has been 15 years? Motherf*ck! It has already been that long? Hell, that reminds me that Warcraft 1 should be having its birthday soon also then!

:awes I was 2 when this game released and I played it for the first time like a couple months ago on a Doom 3 collector's edition copy for Xbox. It still plays pretty well in my opinion, but it kind of feels archaic.

During my Senior year in HS we would do mini lans on the school network playing doom II and all the various doom games it was a blast.
