Activision Details Why They Dropped Ghostbusters

Activision's CEO, Bobby Kotick, gave a rather blunt answer when asked why the company decided to drop titles such as Ghostbusters, Riddick, and 50 Cent.
The games Activision Blizzard didn’t pick up, he said, “don’t have the potential to be exploited every year on every platform with clear sequel potential and have the potential to become $100 million dollar franchises. … I think, generally, our strategy has been to focus… on the products that have those attributes and characteristics, the products that we know [that] if we release them today, we’ll be working on them 10 years from now.”
    He continues on, saying:
“You still need to have production of new original property but you have to do it very selectively… the focus at retail and for the consumer is to continue to be o the big narrow and deep high profile release strategy… We’ve had enough experience that I think the strategy we employ is the most successful.”

Kotick says that next year, the company will release 15 properties across 70 different SKU's. Of these 15 properties, only three or four will be new.

Dropping 50 cent is a gain in my book. I love puns, but they should keep them. The original 50 cent game became an Xbox platinum game *means it sold pretty well, not that it was good, just sales #s. He's popular we get it.* and Riddick was consistently ranked highly on the Xbox and PC. Ghostbusters was ridiculously popular and there has been a ton of speculation and renewed interest for the movie and game. There is enough support for all three to warrant interest by gamers. Activision Blizzard is silly, they are like a hobo deciding to drop a 20$ bill that someone just donated to them.
