EA Threatens Game Bans if Banned on Forums

In a story that sounds reminiscent of earlier threats, a community moderator on the EA message boards is once again pulling out the ban threat card.

This time, an intended policy change states that if your account is banned on the forums, you will thus be banned in any game you have purchased that is tied to your EA account.

Here's "EA Apoc" laying it all out on the line to the community:
Well, its actually going to be a bit nastier for those who get banned.

Your forum account will be directly tied to your Master EA Account, so if we ban you on the forums, you would be banned from the game as well since the login process is the same. And you'd actually be banned from your other EA games as well since its all tied to your account. So if you have SPORE and Red Alert 3 and you get yourself banned on our forums or in-game, well, your SPORE account would be banned to. It's all one in the same, so I strongly reccommend people play nice and act mature.

All in all, we expect people to come on here and abide by our ToS. We hate banning people, it makes our lives a lot tougher, but its what we have to do.

Those banned will stay banned, but like most other internet services, its not that hard to create a new fake e-mail account. However, its a lot harder to get a new serial key =)
This has already sparked a huge wave of outrage across the Internet. People have threatened to stop purchasing titles released by EA, others have already threatened legal action if this policy actually goes into affect.

The EA forums have been garbage for years anyhow. Ive only posted on them once to slap around a guy accusing me of admin abuse and hacking. Never posted again and the forums are still spammed to death.

This news will surely generate a 192 page hate EA thread on some forum.

Hopefully EA's and they'll all get banned?

I've only posted once there to get tech support assistance. Didn't help very much at all.

Surely no one will post on their forums then.

Wait till this thread gets on Slashdot. It is going to get killed! EA...I know they are big, but, if you look at how General Motors are getting hammered now after years of messing around with customers...you can get an idea of what kinda of backlash kids will have as they become adults and remember all crap they saw when it is time to spend their own money.

Hell you look at GM stock a year ago, it was close to the same price as EA was. GM is now worth as much as a McDonalds combo meal (on a sliding scale)...and after the whole Spore fiasco, you wonder is EA about to meet the same basement bargain price?

                  edit:

hahahahha, let the slashdot effect begin!

An anonymous reader writes "A post on the EA Support Forums from APOC, online community manager for Electronic Arts, outlines a new policy for their new forums, saying users who earn a ban based on their behavior in the forums will be locked out of all of the EA games tied to that account: 'Well, it...

Apparently another misunderstanding, but who knows?

Whether or not it is a misunderstanding, EA might want to consider playing Santa Claus for the few years. They have a soiled reputation and anything that adds to the camels back is not good for them.

EA acts like they don't actually want customers, just drones.

Come on DICE, you guys need to move to Steam. It actually feels like community and the technology works very well. Leave the corporate rtards to their own devices while you guys make great games. EA is so busy irritating their clientele, that sooner or later they won't have any.

EA clarifies that forum bans do not equal game bans: http://www.gametab.com/news/2788995/

                          ..

As much as I hate the "jerk" attitude that a lot of interweb people have on forums and wish that many of them would be banned, what they write on a forum and what they do in-game are two separate things. If EA would've followed such a policy, they would've been roasted alive in gaming media, and quite probably sued as well. It was very dumb of that admin/moderator to make such a bold statement without knowing the facts.
