The MMO from BioWare was officially announced today as being in the Knights of the Old Republic universe.
The game will be called Star Wars: The Old Republic and will take place nearly 300 years after the events in Knights of the Old Republic. This places the MMO at a period of roughly 3500 years before the film series.
A trailer was shown at the reveal event that featured a pre-rendered fight scene between a Jedi and a Sith. Lead designer, James Ohlen, explains a bit about the story behind the MMO.
There was no word on monthly payments, release date, or if it would appear on anything but the PC. However, it is expected that we'll see the release at some point in 2009.
We'll have plenty of additional details as they're made available. Stay tuned!

"We're making KOTOR 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and beyond--this game is that big, it's got that much content in it," explained BioWare co-founder Ray Muzyka. "It's very innovative--it's story based."
"We thought of a Howard the Duck MMO, we thought it was a little too crazy," he joked.
"This is something that we're bringing to this game, and really the way we've described how companion characters work is the same in this, they're the lens with which you see the world," said BioWare co-founder Greg Zeschuk.

"A new Sith empire has emerged from deep space and has gone to war against the Republic.
"If you remember in the movies you had Han, Luke, and Leia, but they also had their own personal stories...that's the dynamic we want to create in this game. For players to have their own personal stories, but to come together with other players and have their stories together."
