Re: COD:WW - PC Beta Update Posted by JD
A lot of people will use the ingame friend system. That was one of the most popular features in BF2142. I had 30+ people on mine at any given time and I didnt even try to make friends

Re: COD:WW - PC Beta Update Posted by JD
I agree, it would be possible to do it without much hassle at all, but my thing is, why don't they think about this?Originally posted by WhiskeyI dunno...if enough people asked for it, a "Mr. PotatoHead"-system where you had a variety of helmets, faces, torsos, pants, boots, backpacks, camo patterns, etc, etc to choose from for each faction could indeed work and add the variety a lot of people want. No custom textures or anything so that no one could build hax-skins, but just a wide variety of options, and maybe some kind of "build-your-own-patch" thing for clans to make some kind of arm band or shoulder patch icon for customization.
I think they could build something like this without too much trouble.
I want a soldier that is decked out in uniform from head to toe, a genuine standard World War II uniform, but I can't have that... all depends technically on what weapon I am carrying, or satchels...etc.
I hope they make it in a patch or something, but truly seems doubtful. I hope I am proven wrong.
With the name, I don't really mind. As long as a clan tag can be added, then sure thing. Did they state that PC users also couldn't change their name?
If that is the case, how will "BFE" work? They require your tag to be, for example, S/2|Sr. <- In my case at the moment. That is 7 characters while other tags like X/1|MSzt. is 9 characters. Not allowing editing of the name will hinder tournaments like BFE, but generally playing, I always play by the name "Patton" or "GeneralPatton" so playing as "Patton" and able to add a clan tag, I am cool with that, but it just won't work for the entireity of the game.Comment

Re: COD:WW - PC Beta Update Posted by JD
I have a few questions here if someone in the know could please address them. Quite frankly, I could care less about the Beta testing itself, I am more interested in the actual game features mentioned and the implications thereof.
Regarding the friends and "account", etc, etc:
-So does this work like Steam where I need a unique identifier in order to play online?
-If so, then what if my name "skyguy" is taken by someone else......do I then have to enter a unique identifier among MILLIONS of other people like "skyguy02034002" so they know that it's ME???
-And if so, does that show up as my game name?
-I understand about clan tags, but I'm part of a "miltary-style" clan that uses ranks, so what if I get promoted and my prefix then changes independently of my actual game name, how is that changed?
-What if I want to change my name? For example, I retire from a clan, do I then have to start all over with a new name/identifier?
-Will there be more characters allowed in my name? CoD4 was notoriously short for the number of characters allowed in a name, and I would presume this has been finally corrected by Treyarch, to what was always the case in ALL previous CoD games. Clearly this is a problem when people have to shortform their name to something stupid simply to make it fit. This isn't 1982, we can use more than 8+ characters for a "filename" here.
That's all I have for now, I would greatly appreciate knowledgable answers that can provide actual information, I have no desire for heresay or "who carez dood let's jus pwnz0rs it up in teh beta!!11one!!" dribble either.
Thanks in advance,

Skyguy,
You bring up good points and exactly what I posted above you about the tag situation.
Say you get the name "SkyGuy" and say you are in the 82ndAA clan. (Just throwing a name out there). And because you use Military Rank, you would be..
[82ndAA]Sgt.SkyGuy
But your current game name is..
SkyGuy
That would be 12 characters you need to put in for your "Clan Tag", which I HIGHLY doubt Treyarch would allow. (Going off of common sense from previous games all over the board).
So you leave that clan and you join DTFA clan that doesn't use military rank, and you don't want to use the name SkyGuy anymore.
First, you can change your tag to (DTFA)SkyGuy. But if you do not want the name "Skyguy" anymore, according to what I have read, you need to create a new unique profile.Comment

If they're to do the name as xfire does, ie, you have a "login/profile name", BUT, you have a "display name" also, that would be cool. Then, you can have your ghey name like JoMaMaz654698 and then in game, I can be JoMaMaz. This should be plausible as it's exactly how xfire does it.Comment

It's how Steam works too... you have the Login name to login into Steam, then you have you have your buddy name that everyone can see (but they have to use the login name to add you) then you have any name you want for each games...Comment
