DRM in Far Cry 2 Limits User to 5 Installations

DRM rears its ugly head again, this time appearing in the upcoming Ubisoft title, Far Cry 2. A forum manager for Ubisoft made it clear to everyone just what the DRM in place in the game will allow a user to do.

- You have 5 activations on 3 separate PCs.

- Uninstalling the game “refunds” an activation. This process is called “revoke”, so as long as you complete proper uninstall you will be able to install the game an unlimited number of times on 3 systems.

- You can upgrade your computer as many time as you want (using our revoke system)

- Ubisoft is committed to the support of our games, and additional activations can be provided.

- Ubisoft is committed to the long term support of our games: you’ll always be able to play Far Cry 2.

As noted, if you ever run out of the original activations, contacting Ubisoft should enable you to have more activations added for your game.

After going through this with spore. I absolutely refuse to buy Far Cry 2 now.

As long as it works properly, then this sounds quite reasonable:

It took me five days to get new licenses simply because EA's installation limiting DRM didn't work as advertised. I imagine my phone bill will be quite large too since I was forced to call an area code number, rather than a toll free one.

Now Ubisoft wants to get in on the rip-off your legitimate consumer bandwagon?

Be naive. Your turn will come when every company forces us to pay $50 for a 5 installation rental.

unlike EAs attempt at DRM this DRM can deauth itself, so like it said as long as you uninstall it properly you get back the activation

so you install the game once, go down to 4, then uninstall it and go back up to 5

only drawback being that you can only put it across 3 pcs

somewhat annoying but something I can live with tbh

Didn't EA go on record to say the same thing about it's de-activation programs?

I heard they were going to put out a patch so it would deactivate a registration if you uninstalled, but i could be wrong. But to be honest this sounds like a decent anti-piracy thing, the only thing that worries me is the "- You can upgrade your computer as many time as you want (using our revoke system)" cause i don't want to uninstall the game just to upgrade something...
