Pre-Orders on Left 4 Dead Exceed Orange Box's

Pre-orders for Left 4 Dead already exceed pre-orders made for the Orange Box by 40%! This comes from a fresh interview Valve's Doug Lombardi gave to VGChartz.

Sales goals are hard to truly define until you get close to launch, especially with a new game property. However, we're getting close now and it looks like Left 4 Dead may do OK. Pre-orders for L4D are currently exceeding Orange Box pre-orders by well over 40%, this driven largely by the 10% off promotion being offered now for both versions. And one could assume this trend over Orange will continue as the pre-launch demo hits and the largest consumer advertising campaign for any Valve game begins on buses, buildings, billboards, TV, magazines, and web sites in the next couple weeks.

These figures are only comparing retail pre-orders of the Orange Box to retail pre-orders of Left 4 Dead. The pre-order phase for Steam will come some time in the middle of October.

I'm still not quite convinced to get this. The gameplay looks good, but the whole scary/gore thing makes not want the game. If there turns out to be some humor, and it doesn't try to hard to scare you (like doom 3), then I'll probably skip it.

Actually the doom reference is probably horrible because I never played it, but just assumed that's what it was like.

ok but how is it on pre orders vs Half Life 2 itself when it was first released?

You simply can't even compare L4D to Doom 3. They're completely different styles of games and gameplay.
