Those who remember Hotel Mario have no fond memories of it. Although it uses Mario's name, the character could have been replaced with John Q. Public. Developed by Philips Fantasy Factory for the Philips CD-i, Hotel Mario was one of the main reasons for the break-up between Philips and Nintendo.
The story is one of the most ridiculous things ever told. Bowser has taken control of the entire Mushroom Kingdom and has turned it into a resort consisting of seven hotels. Mario and Luigi set out to destroy the hotels and rescue Princess Peach who is being held as a "permanent guest".
