GTA IV Will Be a Games for Windows - Live Exclusive

When the PC version of Grand Theft Auto IV is released this November, it will be a Games For Windows - Live exclusive title. This means that the game will fully integrate into the LIVE experience, tying together a user login complete with achievements and multiplayer.

Dan Houser had this to say about the service:

"As we work toward the release of the PC version, Games for Windows – Live affords us the opportunity to seamlessly translate the multiplayer console experience for PC gamers. The service is a natural fit for the platform and we strongly believe it will help in building a strong online community around GTA IV PC."

Fallout 3, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II, and James Bond: Quantum of Solace will also have the Games for Windows - Live branding and will all be released before the year's end.

Kevin Unangst, a director of Windows gaming at Microsoft offered up his own thoughts:

"Great Windows-based games like Grand Theft Auto IV, Fallout 3 and Dawn of War II are proof that Microsoft is delivering on its promise to provide the best possible PC gaming experience on Windows.

"We are engaged with our community and listen attentively to their needs and concerns. With their input our platform has continued to evolve, and we’re proud of the marked improvement the Games for Windows program has brought to PC gaming in its first two years."

GTA IV on the PC will arrive November 18 in North America and November 21 in Europe.

Guess I'll never play GTA IV, then. I refuse to get an overpriced crippled computer. (console)
I also refuse to pay for a Windows Live account.

LIVE is free for PC's now.

This sounds kinda stupid but isnt it obvious that it would be a GFW Live exclusive as all games under the GFW are?

No. Considering you can have a GFW title and not use Live. An example being Crysis which uses Gamespy.

I know a lot of people are excited for this, but I personally would never get GTA on the PC. I can't get used to the feeling of a third person adventure game being used with a keyboard+mouse, it throws everything off for me.

Exactly.
I also don't want Vista on my main gaming rig just yet. There are a few games I still play that don't like it. I'm not saying I hate Vista altogether, I have it on 2 of my 5 computers. I just don't want to commit to it fully.

I know that GFW can use anything.

but they are saying it's Live exclusive, well isnt it obvious that its only on live because you cant do it on anything else.

i think they are just trying to promote the pc live features
